Senior Engineer

The Information Systems Engineer designs information systems that are appropriate for users' needs and consistent with the overall design of the organization's information systems architecture. Under limited supervision, this job is responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of the organization's operating systems.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Formulates system scope through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems.
  • Evaluates and implements changes to existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.
  • Reviews flow charts, models, and procedures and feasibility studies to design possible system solutions.
  • Reviews technical documentation to guide system users and to assist with the ongoing operation, maintenance, and development of the system.
  • Collaborates with system analysts, engineers, and programmers to design systems and to determine project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, systems performance standards, and interfaces.
  • Identifies and documents all system constraints, implications and consequences of various proposed system changes.
  • Educates end users on system designs and functionalities through creation of training materials and conducting demos.
  • Evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of application operations and troubleshooting problems.

Job Profile Summary:

Senior z/OS System Programmer responsible for the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of mainframe z/OS systems software and hardware. Requires full understanding of the z/OS operating system and its components, Unix System Services, SMP/E, hardware configuration, capacity planning, performance management, and ISV product support.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serve as primary support and subject matter expert for z/OS operating system and system components.
  • Provide direct technical support as needed in the planning, coordination, installation, implementation, and testing of releases, upgrades, and changes to z/OS operating system and component software with SMP/E.
  • Serve as primary support and subject matter expert for mainframe capacity planning and performance management.
  • Work Load Manager (WLM) policy configuration and maintenance
  • Periodic review and optimization of system LPAR weights settings
  • System level ad hoc reporting for CPU capacity as needed
  • Multiyear capacity trend reporting for management.
  • Batch performance and capacity monitoring of month-end and quarter-end processing
  • Analysis of performance and capacity issues, as well as projects that may impact mainframe capacity
  • Support assigned ISV products and supervise others in support of theirs.
  • Configure and support mainframe hardware including planning and coordination of microcode/firmware upgrades.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex z/OS system problems and performance issues and follow up with root cause analysis.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience required

Base Pay Range: $90,800/yr. - $151,300/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
