Software Engineer III - Cloud / Azure / Java

Remote USA - EST/CST time zones

The Tardis Team is a core R&D group responsible for developing cutting-edge software solutions used by teams across Lexis-Nexis. Much of the current work is focused on Azure cloud adoption by developing libraries for the rest of the company to use to facilitate moving to the cloud. You will be expected to have a strong knowledge of Java enterprise development and best practices, and experience throughout all phases of the software development lifecycle. The team is seen as a "go to" resource across the division for a set of technologies and you will need excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to quickly comprehend new and unfamiliar APIs and software frameworks.

The role will primarily focus on the development and testing of software, however as a team we expect everyone to stretch by participating in the research and design of the software. On a day-to-day level the candidate can expect to work on individual pieces of work and solve problems including the design of the program flow of individual pieces of code, effective coding, and unit testing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of Software Engineering experience
  • BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required



TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Proficiency with data manipulation languages.
  • Understanding of data modeling principles.
  • Ability to work with complex data models.
  • Proficiency in development languages including but not limited to: ReactJS, JavaScript, Java/J2EE, JSP, HTML, XML, SQL, and .Net.
  • Familiarity of industry best practices - code coverage.
  • Ability to work well with internal and external technology resources.
  • Ability to write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity.
  • Knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Knowledge of data manipulation languages.
  • Knowledge of data storage subsystems.
  • Knowledge of test-driven development.
  • Ability to write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity.
  • Ability to complete moderately complex bug fixes.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • A desire to learn, It is not too unusual to have a task handed to you that requires learning an entirely new technology.



Applicants with experience in the following technologies will be preferred:

  • Cloud-based development, particularly Azure experience
  • Terraform
  • Git
  • Spring-boot
  • Microservices
  • Java
  • JavaScript
  • ReactJS (Other JavaScript based front end development experience considered)
  • IntelliJ (primary IDE our team uses)


Optional experience

  • Queue usage (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc)
  • Database integration (mysql, SQLServer, CosmosDB/Dynamodb, NOSql)
  • Big data parallel processing (HPCC, Hadoop, Spark)
  • Containers (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Ansible
  • Server configuration and set up



ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.
  • Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity.
  • Work closely with other development team members to understand moderately complex product requirements and translate them into software designs.
  • Successfully implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
  • Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) while collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Resolve technical issues as necessary.
  • Keep abreast of new technology developments.
  • Complete bug fixes.
  • All other duties as assigned.
