Job Description

Join VMware's Cloud Infrastructure Business Group customer enablement team to shape the hybrid and multi-cloud digital transformation journey that customers are on today. Our team is looking for a Senior Customer Solutions Architect to drive VMware Cloud Platform solutions into our largest accounts. As part of the Customer Enablement team, you'll be directly supporting Field Sales and Pre-sales in large deals, as well as working with Product Management & Engineering team to drive top customer requirements into product development cycle. Activities include field, partner & customer enablement, supporting customer design workshops, Proof of Concept (PoC), creating technical solution guides etc. This is a highly technical role and requires a broad architecture and hands-on skills.

Our ideal customer solutions architect will be a subject matter expert of VMware SDDC stack, and understands how it fits into a large enterprise customer environment and interacts with upper layer applications. The candidate must have a solid engineering background to pick up new solutions at a fast pace, as well as excellent soft skills to interact with customers and field team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct assistance to field sales/pre-sales team, acting as subject matter expert

    for VMware Cloud Platform with deep product expertise as well as comprehensive

    knowledge of IT enabling technologies in customer deployment scenarios.
  • Drive deep architectural discussions supporting top customers to ensure success when

    adopting and expanding with VMware cloud platform solutions.
  • Remotely manage/assist with large customer PoCs, a small percentage of onsite travel

    maybe required depending on business needs.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools as needed in the context of large PoCs
  • Drive key customer requirements into product/solution design and development cycle
  • Create technical collaterals including PoC guides, best practices, blogs, and other

    technical assets for field and customer enablement.
  • Field enablement of product/solution capabilities, participate in knowledge transfer

    events primarily in terms of training-the-trainers
  • Be an active participant in both VMware internal and external communities (such as

    VMware Community and VMUG), as well as social media. Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with one or more of the following technology fields: data storage, networking, cloud management, experiences with VMware SDDC stack (vSAN/NSX/vRA).
  • Minimum of 5 years in a Solutions Architect, Corporate Systems Engineer, or Technology Consultant role, with extensive experience in VMware products, solutions, and services
  • Extensive hands-on experience dealing with infrastructure solutions. Expert level knowledge of x86 operating systems, virtualization, security, networking, and management frameworks.
  • Proficient at working directly with field personnel and large customers in the context of specific transactions.
  • Proficient at working across multiple internal functional groups (Engineering, Product Marketing, Global Support )
  • Demonstrated experience in authoring technical documents and white papers
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and advanced troubleshooting skills and qualities
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral required
  • Work effectively with a remote and distributed team
  • A BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, related field or

    equivalent experience



Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience as a hands-on application architect ideally in a customer-facing capacity
    • Understanding of cloud-native design principles and best practices
    • Understanding of agile software delivery principles



    • Pays attention to software development/architecture trends and best practices
  • Experiences/knowledge in containers preferred: Knowledge of Kubernetes deployment,

    packaging, operational building blocks (i.e. Deployments, Services, Kube API, Helm, Habor etc); Knowledge of Kubernetes networking, monitoring and logging solutions; Experience and or familiarity with public cloud Managed Kubernetes services such as Amazon EKS, GKE, Google Anthos, and Azure Kubernetes Service
  • Experiences/knowledge in AI/ML preferred: Knowledge in Tensorflow or another deep learning framework (Torch/PyTorch, Theano, MXNet, Caffe, etc); Understanding of GPU vs. CPU performance for different model architectures.
  • Software development skills preferred, experience with APIs and automation/scripting to create tools a strong plus
