BioFire Diagnostics, LLC. is looking for a Network Systems Engineer in our Operational Technology Group. This position will support our manufacturing network infrastructure on a 24x7 basis.
Position Summary:
Support and maintain manufacturing information technology infrastructure.
This technical position will install, configure, and manage manufacturing systems. These systems include servers, networking, databases, and applications related to BioFire's manufacturing automation infrastructure.
When providing the support of the infrastructure, Network Systems Engineers are expected to understand the business requirements and provide a reliable and efficient IT infrastructure environment for BioFire automation in manufacturing. They are expected to work efficiently with all the IT staff, as well with other departments. When the necessary support provided is inefficient or unreliable, the Network Systems Engineer is to work with the Manager of Network Engineering to resolve the issue.
Network Systems Engineers in the Operational Technology Group are expected to participate in a defined 24x7 support environment and be dedicated to the manufacturing and automation systems which they support.
Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics' Quality System.
- Perform duties as detailed in BioFire Diagnostics' technical mission and Code of Business Conduct.
- Monitor and respond to relevant manufacturing and automation frontline support issues via the corporate trouble ticketing system.
- Maintain BioFire Diagnostics' manufacturing and automation IT infrastructure.
- Complete projects on time with supervision from the Manager of Network Engineering, following the IT/IS project guidelines.
- Primary function is to install, manage, and maintain manufacturing and automation information technology systems (see Skills section below).
- Have a strong understanding of networking, application, and database concepts.
- Acts as primary technical resource for manufacturing and automation systems (see Skills section below).
- Seeks to mentor lower level information systems engineers.
- Continually update technical knowledge and skills.
Principal Decisions:
- Participate in IT infrastructure and support discussions and implement decisions regarding manufacturing and automation systems.
- Work with Manufacturing teams and IT management to define future technology needs, staying aware of the technology trends
- Work with suppliers and support the budget process
- Makes decisions for most tasks requiring judgment and makes recommendations, while relying upon the guidance of the Manager of Network Engineering.
- Makes decisions for established tasks.
Training and Education:
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, a scientific or a technical field is preferred. Equivalent experience and certifications may be substituted.
Experience:
Network Systems Engineer III
- Minimum 4 years of work experience in information technology or related field.
- Experience in an automated manufacturing environment preferred.
Network Systems Engineer IV
- Minimum 6 years of work experience in information technology or related field.
- Experience in an automated manufacturing environment preferred.
Enterprise information systems skills preferred:
- Database design and administration
- Windows servers
- Active Directory administration
- Advanced Networking (Data Center, routing, switching, configuring)
- Network security
- Backups
- Virtualization
- Systems and network monitoring and reporting
Operational Technology systems skills preferred:
- Familiarity and exposure to commercial off the shelf (COTS) SCADA and MES applications: Rockwell and OSI preferred.
- Working experience in FDA regulated industries; knowledge of cGMP, 21 CFR part11 and validation.
- Fundamental understanding of IT and OT network communication protocols (For example: TCP/IP, UDP, OPC, CIP, etc.)
- Familiarity with cybersecurity operations, event monitoring, and SIEM tools.
- Understanding of security controls for common platforms and devices, including Windows, PLCs, automation assets, and network equipment.
