The Vanguard 2.2.1 contract is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer/Platform Developer to support the Office of Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology within the Bureau of Information Resource Management for the Department of State. The customer is seeking a motivated individual with a background in System Administration to manage a Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment hosted in Amazon Web Services and to manage the daily activities of configuration and operation of systems which may be mainframe, mini, or client/server based. This role is temporarily hybrid remote due to Covid-19 and could be called back into the office full time at the customer's request.
Responsibilities

As a Linux Systems Engineer/Platform Developer, you will work with a team to manage the daily activities of configuration and operation of systems which may be mainframe, mini, or client/server based. Plan and monitor the optimizing of system operation and resource utilization and perform systems capacity analysis and planning. Plan and monitor assistance to users in accessing and using business systems. The candidate must be a forward-thinking Linux System Administrator/Architect to support the modernization, deployment, configuration, security, and operation of Enterprise Information Technology infrastructure for a variety of customers and application workloads.

The role operates in an Agile / Scrum environment. It requires a solid understanding of the full software lifecycle, including functional requirement gathering, design and development, automated testing of software applications, and documenting requirements and technical specifications. In this position, you will be a contributor to the technical solutions discussions and primary party responsible for the system documentation required by our clients.

  • Capturing user requirements and documenting user stories
  • Designing and configuring Enterprise SaaS solutions
  • Participating in design reviews and code reviews
  • Creating test plans and participating in testing reviews
  • Resolving defects
  • Researching and assisting in the development and participation in the hands-on installation, configuration, and maintenance of large enterprise applications.
  • Automating and maintaining the deployment of application and configuration components
  • Assisting in the documentation for testing
  • Assisting in monitoring, alerting, reporting, and data analytics of technical solutions
  • Assisting in production support of business applications: managing application instances; troubleshooting application failures; diagnosing performance or reliability issues of applications
  • Assisting application teams in the use of support tools

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; May accept additional experience in lieu of degree.
  • Three or more years working in an Enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Three or more years of experience in UNIX/Linux administration
  • Experience scripting (Pearl, Shell, BASH, other)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to clearly understand and articulate complex problems.
  • Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Requirements development and analysis experience.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as collaborating with a team

Required Clearance

  • Active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret
  • Top Secret Clearance preferred

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Experience with Splunk
  • Experience with SaaS based platforms such as ServiceNow or Salesforce
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools:
    • Atlassian JIRA & Confluence
    • MS Teams
    • Slack
    • Zoom
  • Familiarity with patch management tools such as Red Hat Satellite
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a constantly changing environment
