Heartbeat Health is seeking a stellar Lead Front End Engineer to join our team. You’ll report to our CTO and help us build, launch, and scale the technology and experience that powers Heartbeat.

About the gig

  • Work with engineering leadership to set, communicate, and execute the technology vision and strategy across the entire organization.
  • Lead a small team of frontend engineers to define, design, develop, and deploy user-facing, cross-platform applications for desktop and mobile devices, and to shepherd releases continuously to the web and through respective app stores.
  • Lead the development of scalable, extensible, modular, secure, and performant software features, components, interfaces, and systems for web and mobile platforms.
  • Identify and solve technical problems of medium to large scope and complexity.
  • Provide engineering and architecture leadership to all aspects of the system, software, data, and technical processes, including the frontend frameworks, SDLC, deployment pipeline, data models, and third-party integrations.
  • Lead the design and use of frontend component libraries to promote code reuse and consistency of experience between web and mobile platforms and viewports.
  • Support and maintain API integrations within the frontend codebase.
  • Work with engineering leadership to define and promote adherence to team standards and best practices for code style, maintainability, testability, documentation, security, and scalability.
  • Participate in regular code reviews and pair programming sessions to put team standards into practice and to improve code quality.
  • As a self-started, recognize, identify, and propose solutions to technical issues that affect the effectiveness or efficiency of the team, product, or systems.
  • Work with the engineering leadership and product teams to effectively and efficiently develop and maintain software features and capabilities described by the roadmap and executed with velocity in a test-driven deployment process, instrumented for measurement, documented for stakeholders, and within an agile scrum methodology.
  • Work with the QA team to identify manual and automated approaches to promote frontend quality, robustness, and compatibility with supported platforms, such as web, iOS, and Android.
  • Create and execute a plan to grow and improve the frontend engineering team in accordance with company goals and projections.
  • Lead the interviewing, onboarding, and mentoring other software engineers.
  • Maintain and promote security, compliance, and regulatory standards, such as HIPAA and SOC2, and promote system uptime, disaster mitigation, and adherence to partner SLAs.
  • Work with business development, product management, and marketing leaders to solution new and strategic opportunities.
  • Jump in to help the team fight any manner of fire that immediately and negatively affects the customer experience.
  • As a note, our company is currently fully remote since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, you must be comfortable working remotely.

About you

  • Have 7+ years of industry experience building user-facing, cross-platform web and mobile applications that deliver consumer and enterprise technology with significant scale - healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Are deeply skilled in and demonstrate an obvious passion for frontend engineering, having built scalable, extensible, modular, secure, and performant software features, components, interfaces, and systems.
  • Have fluency in several modern JavaScript frontend language implementations and frameworks, such as React, React Native, AngularJS, Vue.js, or native iOS and Android app development.
  • Are highly adept at designing and implementing frontend components and building component libraries.
  • Have extensive experience with HTML, CSS, and core JavaScript concepts, as well as writing automated tests (e.g. Jasmine Karma, Mocha), and integrating to REST or GraphQL APIs.
  • Have experience or knowledge of aspects of our stack and various patterns, including use of AWS, GraphQL, Docker, Kubernetes, React, and React Native.
  • Have demonstrated success in growing, mentoring, and leading technology teams that successfully ship releases at velocity; work within an agile scrum methodology; maintain uptime; manage cost considerations; maintain security, compliance, and regulatory standards; and collaborate with all parts of the company.
  • Are broadly knowledgeable about backend engineering, data science, design, and product management.
  • Have an undergraduate or graduate (preferred) degree in computer science or a directly related field.
  • Are incredibly creative, collaborative, and resourceful in problem solving, often starting from first principles.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Are great at time management, continuously prioritizing and completing important tasks.
  • Can work closely with team members of various backgrounds, encouraging different perspectives and feedback to constantly improve technology and engineering process.
