Responsibilities

As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Frontdoor, you are responsible for maintaining the availability and uptime of infrastructure. SREs use software engineering principles to solve operational challenges to create reliable infrastructure. Our goal is to reduce the toil from our everyday work using as much automation as possible. This role requires expertise in administering and managing database systems (PostgresSQL in particular) apart from SRE expertise.

  • Research and implement solutions to build an always-up, always-available, resilient services.
  • Builds and maintains cloud and container orchestration infrastructure.
  • Collaborates with software engineering, security, systems teams to help automate and streamline operations and processes.
  • Integrates and automates existing manual solutions and processes.
  • Plan for growth and capacity of our cloud infrastructure
  • Analyze, design, and implement solutions for PostgreSQL database cluster and its dependencies.
  • Work on observability by adding relevant metrics.
  • Participates on cross functional company project teams responsible for implementing technology.
  • Investigates anomalies/outages and determines steps to reproduce, root cause, and solutions options.
  • Monitors environment performance and provides all necessary reporting analysis.
  • Implement SRE/DevSecOps principles and practices across organization to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Mentor peer SREs.

Qualifications

  • Expert understanding of container orchestration (Kubernetes/Nomad/Mesos/Swarm).
  • Expert experience with cloud service providers (at least one of GCP, AWS, or Azure).
  • Proficiency with Golang and/or Python.
  • Strong desire to shift left to DevSecOps.
  • Strong understanding of service mesh solutions (Istio).
  • Self-directed with the ability to coordinate the work of others, both inside and external to the team.
  • Strong understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems, CLI, and its internals.
  • Strong understanding of core concepts of computer networking (TCP/UDP, IP Routing, DNS, NAT, Load Balancing, Monitoring).
  • Hands-on experience administering and managing PostgreSQL databases.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management software (Terraform/Ansible).
  • Hands-on experience with messaging queues (Kafka).
  • Understanding and experience in at least one CI/CD pipeline (Gitlab/Jenkins).
  • Ability to write good technical user documents.
  • Experience with setting up Logging and Monitoring with Splunk.
  • Experience with a CDN (Akamai).

The incoming salary for this role is $150,000 for the minimum level of experience outlined in the requirements for this role; however, the salary we ultimately offer will typically increase commensurate with experience.
