Eaton's Digital Office, Utilities Segment is currently seeking a Java Software Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Rockville, MD location.

Position Overview:

As a Java Software Engineer, you will design, develop, implement, and test enterprise software solutions that drive complex power system automation for electric utilities. You will work on a software platform that enables our customers to manage their electrical grid by managing and gathering data from an RF Mesh Network. Our software is the gateway to data from many devices including electrical meters on buildings, and control devices in substations for grid management. Our development team works in an Agile environment and uses the latest proven technologies to create great software. In this function you will:

  • Develop enterprise software solutions in a Java/J2EE environment.
  • Full range of development including new features, bug fixes, refactoring, optimization, and testing.
  • Work on a fast-paced and dynamic scrum team following Agile design framework (sprints, stand-ups, time estimation, work breakdown).
  • Utilize experience and research to implement best-practices, determine appropriate technologies and design patterns, and identify/mitigate risks
  • Contribute to our product's continuous improvement by building great solutions and engaging in code reviews and technical discussions with entire development team.
  • Investigate critical customer support issues and propose creative solutions. Analyze Java Heap dumps, memory allocation, deadlocks, and threading.
  • Work closely with all team members (including software, firmware, QA, customer service, and marketing).
  • Work with geographically dispersed teams.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar from an accredited institution OR currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar from an accredited institution with an expected graduation date no later than June 2022.
  • 1+ years' experience with Java/Web Technologies, or similar as well as knowledge of application and database integration methods and technologies.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Rockville, MD will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.



Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience translating business requirements into technical design.
  • 1 year of Java development experience.
  • Understanding of typical software architectures, object oriented programming, and best practices for software development.
  • Experience with DevOps, Agile, JMS Messaging, Rest APIs, and SQL preferred.
  • Experience with development tools and libraries including Eclipse, Git, SQL Server, Oracle, Spring, Tomcat, JIRA, Bitbucket, vSphere.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple groups including marketing, product management, and quality.
  • 1 year experience developing large-scale software.
