Implementation Engineer

Adyen is looking for an Implementation Engineer to manage new implementations and/or enhancements for our quickly growing portfolio of merchants. You will work with Adyen's largest merchants globally to solution, consult, troubleshoot, implement, and launch scalable technical integrations. This position is based in our new North American tech hub in Chicago, and the ideal candidate is both consultative and technical.

What you'll do:

Utilize development and programming experience to ensure a solid and scalable overall implementation
Serve as the consultative partner to our merchants during their integration with Adyen by advocating for payments best practices
Develop subject matter expertise in specific solutions/verticals (e-commerce, point of sale, multi-faceted platforms, etc)
Work together cross-functionally with Sales, Account Managers, Product, and Engineering to get merchants live

Who you are:

2+ years experience integrating with web APIs. Experience with modern web frameworks a plus (React, Node.js, etc)
Proven ability to quickly learn new technologies and understand complex systems (APIs, databases, SDK's, etc.)
Excellent communication skills; comfortable leading meetings with C-level contacts
Ability to identify and clearly communicate pragmatic solutions to complex integration problems
Continuous desire to improve technical acumen

No boundaries on culture

Adyen’s culture reflects the fluidity of where its employees work. For instance, Sipp’s team spans four cities and two countries, a work environment that she describes as “boundless.” “Our culture has no real limits,” Sipp said. “If one can imagine something, come up with a plan to make it happen and set it in motion, there’s space for that.” To create and enhance Adyen’s culture, Sipp and her team maintain the physical office space and host events, activities and programming. They also create space for team members to suggest social impact initiatives and volunteering efforts.

We also encourage the team to create ERGs and host events that promote DEI, as well as plan good old fun, like game nights, themed happy hours and team offsites.

Expectation vs. Reality

There’s no such thing as a typical day

People expect engineers to spend 40 hours a week coding on their computers. But the reality at Adyen is much different — their time is mostly spent discussing ideas or tech that can be applied to current problems. “When you have talented engineers, everyone has an opinion on how to solve problems,” Bravo said. “But this ensures we sharpen our ideas to provide the best product.” Bravo’s team typically partners with a launch customer so they can receive immediate feedback on a product. “We are not a company that will have kick-off meetings or more meetings to get the perfect product out there.”

We are in a fast-changing landscape, and our product process reflects that. We launch fast and then we iterate until we get it right.

Collaboration comes to life

Teamwork is a core value at Adyen. It's a priority for Visinet, who includes her team in planning and decision-making. “It’s important for me to share strategic insight with my team and to bring our work back to the big picture,” Visinet said.
