The Core Experience team owns core infrastructure (Messaging) and most parts of the Snapchat product which have partners (Bitmoji, Snap Kit, Games and Minis, Snapchat Creative Tools, and Music). We help Snapchatters keep in touch with their friends, play games, share content, create engaging and unique Snaps, and express themselves with their virtual Bitmoji avatar. We work closely with Developer partners making Snap Kit applications and Snap Games.
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to help support our teams solving interesting technical challenges, building world-class experiences in Snapchat and maintaining a platform used by hundreds of millions every day. Working from our Los Angeles or Seattle offices, you’ll manage teams in Seattle, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, New York, Toronto, and Sydney and collaborate with leaders and executives across Snap to deliver the highest quality for our product.
What you’ll do:
Oversee day-to-day operations of a division of the Core Experience Engineering team (Bitmoji, Messaging, Snapchat Creative Tools, Developer Tools, and Games), across multiple offices
Be an active member of the Snap Engineering and Core Experience Engineering leadership teams
Develop organizational-level goals, drive the technical and organizational roadmap for the engineering team
Collaborate with Design, Product and Engineering teams distributed across multiple offices
Drive strategic thought on key aspects of the Snapchat product design and engineering architecture
Work with corporate development to assess M&A opportunities
Build and grow a team of exceptional software engineers, software engineers and technical leaders
Influence key decisions on architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions
Mentor a team of engineering managers and senior independent contributors
Iterate quickly without compromising quality and raise the bar on operational excellence
Develop new hire materials and schedule interviews with candidates
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Able to prioritize duties and work well on your own
Excellent interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail
Background working with both internal and external partners
Strong CS fundamentals
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent experience
10+ years of experience in software engineering
8+ years of experience managing a team
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience leading a large team at scale and managing engineering with an eye to driving efficiency
Previous experience partnering with cross-functional executives and management across a globally distributed organization and exercising sound judgment
Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-site, multi-stakeholder environments
Deep knowledge of and experience working with a diverse group of engineers
Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-site, multi-stakeholder environments
Someone who loves to learn, and is passionate about helping others
Experience with feed ranking, search or advertising
Experience with data science and Internet-scale infrastructure
Experience managing teams of at least 50 engineers
