Department OverviewApplied Technology is a rapid prototyping center within Motorola Solutions. We create proof-of-concept and lower-volume specialty communications products for government and private industry using wireless technologies such as TETRA, LMR, DMR, 5G, LTE, UMTS, CDMA, GSM, WiFi and IoT. Job Description
Daily Responsibilities:
Responsible for all phases of projects, from requirements analysis and system architecture, through micro-architecture and design, coding (VHDL or Verilog), test bench design, verification, synthesis, and FPGA place and route
Work closely with hardware and software developers with a hands-on role in product integration and debugging using simulation and test equipment in the lab
Responsible for hardware engineering tasks including design, component selection, FPGA design, and validation of the entire product
Provide mentorship to junior engineers
Regular interaction with customers
You must be a flexible, results-oriented problem-solver who requires minimal supervision. Projects can vary greatly from one to the next, so you must thrive on variety and enjoy taking on new challenges.
Desired Experience / Skills / Knowledge:
FPGA design using VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog
EDA tools such as Modelsim, Cadence Incisive, Xilinx ISE/Vivado and Altera Quartus
Simulation (in Matlab/Simulink, Python, or equivalent) as well as implementation / verification
Physical layer design and implementation of one or more wireless telecommunication protocols, e.g. TETRA, LMR, DMR, 5G NR, LTE, UMTS, CDMA, GSM, WiFi and IoT
Configuration management tools such as Git
Excellent communications and teamwork skills are essential for interacting with a small project team and customers.

Basic Requirements
Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) degree, preferably in Computer or Electrical Engineering
Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain the necessary security clearance as required by government contract
