Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Flight Engineering Senior Manager in Huntington Beach, CA.
The Senior Manager will have approximately 15 direct reports, located mostly in Southern California. The team of engineers supports a variety of programs across BDS, primarily focused in the SoCal Region. The engineers specialize in a variety of Flight sub-disciplines such as aerodynamics, rocket propulsion and configuration design.
The responsibilities of the manager will include: deployment of engineers on the team to support program statement of work within our skillset, and to subsequently engage with the team to ensure successful execution of the Flight content to meet technical scope, cost and schedule. Responsibilities also include performance management and skill development of the team, and hiring when needed to meet growth due to program requirements, as well as identifying new opportunities for the team as they complete one assignment and become available for the next. Additionally, the manager will assist with talent management activities for BDS Flight Systems Capability which reaches across multiple BDS sites. In these roles, the manager will report to the BDS Senior Manager of Aero/CFD and Talent Management Leader.
Model Based Engineering (MBE) is going thru extensive growth and development. The manager in this position will spend approximately half of their time supporting the Flight Systems Capability in MBE pursuits, both for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) and participation at the Enterprise level as well. This position will take the lead in working with the BDS and Enterprise MBE teams as well as with the Flight Systems Capability Leadership team to help formulate the MBE strategy for BDS Flight Systems, to develop the plans going forward to meet this strategy, and then lead the implementation efforts for BDS Flight Systems. Program management experience will be required for this role to manage the portfolio of projects. Also, a broader understanding of the sub-disciplines within Flight Engineering will be advantageous to have a basic understanding of the interactions these projects will have across the MBE digital thread. In this role, the manager will report to the BDS Flight Systems Capability Director.
This position allows limited telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 10+ years of engineering experience
  • 7+ years of experience in Flight Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in Aerodynamics
  • 5+ years of experience in leading or managing an engineering team
  • 3+ years of program management experience


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Familiar with Computational Fluid Dynamics and configuration design
