Digital Payments group under Global Consumer Technology is looking for Digital Engineering Manager for a Digital Payments. The Digital Payments group at Citi focuses on creative ways to engineer business solutions to meet growing needs of all business and consumers across Citi globally. At core, our portfolio comprises of engineered custom solutions to process very high-volume micro-transactions from Zelle, ACH, LAT and high dollar value transactions from X-border Wires and RTP payments platforms. These solutions are based on cutting edge enterprise technologies ranging from Server Side Java, Web Technologies, Search Platforms, Cloud Technology, Oracle and NoSQL Databases. Accurately processing such high volume transactions is our core strength.

Responsibilities:

  • In this role, you will lead the Application Engineering for different components of a payments platform. The product interacts with a variety of other systems, internal and external to Citi.
  • This role will work closely with business projects team, assess the capabilities of product modules both for features and scale, and define/execute a technical roadmap. The product is extremely wide in its capabilities and a candidate passionate about Engineering will thrive under the opportunities it presents. The platform provides great exposure to different facets of payments processing at a scale only Citi can offer.
  • Demonstrate the ability to attract senior talent and multiple functions from inside and outside of company. Teach others how to set high organizational performance standards, determine performance measures and goals and establish a leadership bar. This will require the ability to facilitate understanding of broader organizational tenets and strategic goals for department.
  • Recognize trends for larger-scale development needs within and across teams and builds plans to develop skills. Share talent development best practices across organization
  • Audit department goals to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and that these goals are aligned with and accountable for department performance against goals
  • Develop and communicate department vision that supports the broader organizational vision; ensure team culture consistently demonstrates alignment with leadership principles; and visibly ties department decisions to leadership principles and tenets
  • Lead the development, implementation, and delivery of successful large-scale, critical and/or difficult software efforts involving significant work (can be new software or a refactor of existing software). Heavily influence the development and write a significant portion of the "critical-path" code.
  • Think in terms of architecture, not just code. Have detailed knowledge of the work done by your team and proactively work to improve consistency and integration between your software and related software (owned by other teams).
  • Influence your team's technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to team priorities and approach. You take the lead in identifying and solving ambiguous problems, architecture deficiencies, or areas where your team's software bottlenecks the innovation of other teams. Make software simpler.
  • Able to communicate your ideas effectively to achieve the right outcome for your team and customer. Harmonize discordant views and lead the resolution of contentious issues (build consensus).
  • Lead design and architecture reviews for your teams and actively participate in design reviews of related software or other team software at your location.
  • Code, development and implementation decisions set a great example to others. Provide insightful code reviews and take ownership of outcome. ("You 'ship it', you own it.") Work very efficiently and routinely deliver the right things.
  • Support implementation of money moment, mobile wallet and payment technology on a global basis.
  • Collaborate with multiple vendors who may provide components of the technology that will meet the end to end needs.
  • Lead teams that will be executed using agile methodology with dynamic team of technical, business and vendors.
  • Demonstrate technical influence over 3-4 teams, either via a collaborative software effort or by increasing their productivity and effectiveness by driving software engineering best practices (e.g., Security, Quality, Operational Excellence, etc.).
  • Actively participate in the hiring process as well as mentor others - improving their skills, their knowledge of your software, and their ability to get things done
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.



Experience / Qualification:

  • 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering
  • 4+ years of Engineering Management Experience
  • Application and Database Engineering for scale
  • Building Applications on cloud platforms, preferably Open Shift, AWS
  • Hands on Engineer who can review code and contribute individually
  • Familiarity with messaging platforms
  • Background in leading Java based applications
  • Lead UI Engineering using Angular and React
  • Engineering background to build Payment Products is highly desired
  • Experience with Digital Payments - including Zelle, ACH , RTP, X-border wires is a plus.
  • Knowledge or experience in J2EE, Tomcat, and/or other Containers.
  • 4-6 Experience in Mobile development/ Web Services ( SOAP/JSON)
  • Experience in application of non-functional software qualities such as resiliency, maintainability etc.
  • Working experience with Agile, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and other web 3.0 development concepts
  • Experience in BDD, TDD and other testing frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of architecture patterns, experience in software architecture field.
  • Experience guiding and mentoring medium to large size teams in time sensitive and complex projects.
  • Willingness and ability to be hands on when needed with passion for software development, quality.
  • Has thrived and succeeded in delivering high quality technology products / services in a high growth environment where priorities shift rapidly.
  • Ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases.
  • First-class leadership and influencing skills, including experience managing a Tech Team
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and talent management skills, including the ability to identify and develop product management talent.
