In this position, you will be an important part of the Controls and Automation Product Platform Engineering and Sales team. You will assist with many of their day-to-day activities, including:

  • Prepare product, and/or layout and detailed drawings and schematics using SolidWorks, EPLAN, and AutoCAD/Draftsight.
  • Review application challenges and find solutions for the customer's requirements.
  • Process Engineering Change Orders for the product lines.
  • Conduct review meetings with sales, engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance personnel.
  • Initiate test requests, analyze results, and take appropriate action.
  • Provide engineering support to the manufacturing floor as required.
  • Perform on-site inspections and support commissioning activities.

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Associates degree (A.S.) in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, or Engineering Technology and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD 2018 or newer, SolidWorks, and EPLAN are desired.
  • Sound understanding of industrial networking, mobile electrification, and industrial control system a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak with Sales and/or Customers concerning application and technical requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Office365 applications is a must.
  • Working knowledge of SAP would be beneficial.

Summary

The Application Engineering role shall support the Controls and Automation Product Platform and Engineering team by providing detailed sales and system application support. An individual in this role is expected to provide guidance and direction to the Sales team and internal Engineering team members concerning product design to meet a customer's needs. The role is directly involved in product design for customized solutions, including design proposals for quotations, solution verification, and drafts / drawing proposals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include

  • Communicates directly with Customers and Sales staff to guide their decision-making process and find solutions to meet their requirements.
  • Reviews Industrial Networking and Automation system designs to specify products that provide control, energy, and data transmission solutions.
  • Prepares component, product, and/or layout and detailed drawings and schematics using Solidworks, EPLAN, and AutoCAD/DraftSight.
  • Reviews application challenges with Engineering support teams. Works to find solutions to meet the customer's requirements.
  • Processes Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for the product line(s).
  • Locates design and application files related to the required design(s), and makes design modifications, as appropriate.
  • Conducts design review meetings with sales, manufacturing, and quality assurance personnel, for special engineered products.
  • Initiates and writes Test Requests, analyzes results, and takes appropriate action.
  • Over time, develops an expert-level understanding of assigned products.
  • Provides engineering support to the manufacturing shop floor as required.
  • Corrects any errors/omissions that occur in an expeditious manner and looks for ways to reduce/eliminate reoccurring errors.
  • Supports corrective action investigation, analysis, and permanent corrective action implementation.
  • Performs on-site inspections and supports commissioning activities.
  • Understands and interprets regulatory codes such as UL, NEC and NFPA.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the customer and assigned by management. Supports and upholds the Quality and EHS policy. Upholds the Core Values.

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities

  • This role has no supervisory responsibilities, anyone in this role is expected to provide guidance and leadership to team members in Designer roles.

Qualified candidates will possess the following

  • Ability to communicate and effectively document conversations with Sales and/or Customers concerning applications and technical requirements.

During travel noise levels may require the use of hearing protection. Work in our prototype or test facility will require the use of PPE including safety glasses and steel-toe safety shoes.
