Description
The Engine and Power System Electronics Product Support group is accountable for the product health, quality, reliability, and durability of Electronics Systems on Caterpillar Engines and Power System Applications with responsibility ranging from executing product support deliverables in New Product Introduction programs, immediate problem resolution on customer's products to initiating and supporting long term CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) projects. A Product Service Engineer interacts broadly across the Caterpillar Enterprise to find suitable customer solutions including Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) teams, Parts, Logistics, Service Publications, Sales, Product Support, Warranty, Quality, and Manufacturing. This position is within the Integrated Components & Solutions Engine and Power System Electronics NPI Product Support team located in Mossville, IL.
Job Duties
Identify problems, investigate causes and establish priorities for resolution.
Define field problems in terms of observed symptoms, research available data, define applications and conditions encountered, identify root cause, work with dealers and technical staff to identify information needed, assist CPI team in developing plans to fix problem including validation, and ensure appropriate publications are updated.
Monitor results after change.
Initiate preparation and distribution of technical publications to identify problems, communicate resolutions and announce product improvements.
Interact with ICS development teams, prime product groups, service tool group and publications teams to ensure all product support deliverables are executed effectively and that service/support needs are reflected in the product design delivered by that program.
Provide technical product support to dealer personnel, subsidiary service groups, marketing units, design engineers, technical information division, test and evaluation, etc.
Support marketing units with technical guidance to manage customer problems with product deficiencies or application issues.
Support design engineer activity; identify market needs to be considered in changes to product.
Respond to dealer/customer and other Caterpillar employee questions regarding product performance.
Conduct dealer and customer visits to personally provide technical assistance on field follow issues and for follow up purposes.
Maintain communications on the level necessary for multi plant involvement on a worldwide basis.
Basic Qualifications
Product development or service engineering experience with power systems and electronic control systems
5 years' experience with electronic control systems or power systems product development or support
Top Candidates will also have
New Product Introduction (NPI) process experience in product development or product support
Internal or external experience in service, service engineering, or product support related roles
Engineering degree in ME, EE, AgE, CompE, or related field.
Strong technical aptitude and product knowledge and good engineering background
Additional Information
The location for this position is Mossville, IL.
Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
This position will require less than 10% travel.
