Role Description

How many times you get an opportunity to be at the ground floor on a very big and important mission? What if you get to be one of the top leaders defining the mission, hiring, guiding your teams and influencing the direction of Dropbox? As the Director of Engineering for search for Dropbox’s new initiatives division, you will exactly get to do that.  You’re able to balance business delivery with engineering quality, have strong business acumen, are data and metrics oriented, and can balance a portfolio of short term and long term investments.

  • Conceptualize and implement a technical strategy for search as we evolve a product line loved by hundreds of millions of people.
  • Work with cross functional team members to align product and technology.
  • You will create a culture of strong technical ownership, resulting in highly reliable products and services at scale.
  • You'll foster a healthy and collaborative culture that embodies Dropbox's values and continue to develop Dropbox as one of the best places to work.

  • Demonstrated ability to hire and grow senior leaders and managers
  • Deep organization capabilities, especially in influence, collaboration and communication
  • BS degree in a technical or design related discipline (CS preferred)

Additional Perks + Benefits

In order to be successful in our Virtual First environment we needed to make changes that would allow employees to have more control over both where and how they work. Therefore, we embrace “non-linear workdays” with defined core collaboration hours that overlap across time zones. Beyond that, we encourage employees to design their own schedules to balance collaboration with needs for individual focus. We’ve also moved from “all day syncs” to an “async by default” culture, reserving meetings for discussion, debate, and decision-making, and handling all other work in our deep focus hours.
