Position Summary:

 

The Innovation Lab Cloud Engineer is an AWS cloud technology specialist who deploys, maintains, secures, and ensures high availability of Ultragenyx' Rarify™ Decentralized Clinical Trials (DCT) system while adhering to regulatory requirements. This position plays a critical role in designing, improving and documenting the Rarify automated build, testing and CI/CD processes using industry best practices.

 

Work Model:

 

Remote: officially documented as working full time from home, with travel to Ultragenyx's offices or other location on occasion as needed

Responsibilities:

  • Execute cloud infrastructure and custom application deployments, maintenance and operations processes in a traceable, documented way that is compliant with applicable regulations
  • Understand, implement and maintain security best practices and apply them to all aspects of the cloud-based processes and activities
  • Professionally document cloud deployment, maintenance processes in a detailed workbook fashion
  • Create, maintain and use checklists for processes that are recorded in a 21 CFR Part 11 (Annex 11) compliant audit trail upon execution.
  • Sets up and maintains proper monitoring and alarming systems to ensure high availability
  • Receive pager alerts in mobile phone during designated hours, respond to incidents, troubleshoot and resolve issues in real time, give status reports, hold and documents post-mortems
  • Help designing, writing and optimizing the build, integration, test and deployment processes while working closely with the development team
  • Write, maintain and optimize automation processes using cloud technologies.
  • Participates in cloud architecture design, advise the development team on cloud technology best practices and optimizations
  • Help implementing software solutions that are reliable, secure, performant, efficient, well tested, well maintainable and scalable
  • Participate and follow the agile development method: sprint planning, estimating, status meetings, retrospectives, etc
  • Understand and adhere to the business rules, legal, and regulatory requirements for global clinical trials and observational, non-interventional studies

Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of and deep experience with the latest cloud operations technologies, primarily with AWS, but in general with other major cloud providers too
  • 3-5+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining solutions with the following AWS services: IAM, Amplify, API Gateway, AppConfig, CloudFront, CloudWatch, CloudWatch Synthetics, Cognito, DynamoDb, EC2, EBS, ECR, ECS, EventBridge, GuardDuty, Inspector, RDS (for MS SQL Server), Route 53, S3, Lambda (JS, TypeScript, C#), SES, SNS, SQS, VPC, ELB, VPN, WorkSpaces, Backup, CloudFormation, CloudTrail, CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, CLI, Elastic Beanstalk, Firewall Manager, WAF, KMS, Secrets Manager, Single Sign-on, Systems Manager.
  • Deep understanding and prior experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) implementations.
  • Strong understanding and deep experience with cloud security best practices (IAM, KMS, etc.).
  • Deep knowledge and experience of AWS CLI.
  • Significant experience with AWS Tools and SDK.
  • Excellent understanding of cloud-based networking, security and access control.
  • Experience with deploying, maintaining and supporting containerized solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Docker Compose and the Docker ecosystem.
  • Excellent scripting skills in Linux Shell, JavaScript/TypeScript and Python.
  • Hands-on experience with preparing for and successfully achieving disaster recovery.
  • Ability to work remotely and support remote teams using collaboration products such as JIRA, Confluence, MS Teams, etc.
  • Excellent documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent communications skills - verbal, written and presentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, both architecture as well as script level.
  • Understanding of and experience working with REST APIs.
  • Understanding and experience with web-based applications and browser based
