Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is recruiting for an Associate Aerodynamics/CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) Engineer to execute aero/CFD statement of work in design, development and integration across an exciting suite of platforms within the Fixed Wing product domain, including tactical aircraft, trainers and autonomous fixed-wing vehicles. This position will be located in Huntington Beach, CA.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to aero/CFD design and analysis of flight vehicles to ensure that the vehicle meets requirements.
  • Supports the development of new and improving existing technologies, tools and processes to enhance technology readiness, improve vehicle performance and reduce cycle time and cost.
  • Assists with the development of test requirements to meet test objectives using established processes.
  • Assists with assessing the impact of proposed regulations to determine the effect on cost, performance, producibility, maintainability and safety.
  • Supports certification and qualification processes of the aerodynamic characteristics of flight vehicles. Assists in training others.


This position allows limited telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited course of study focusing on CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)/Aerodynamics
  • Experience with the application of CFD to vehicle design and analysis.
  • Experience in grid generation, numerical algorithms, and physical modeling of flight vehicles and vehicle components utilizing unstructured (primarily) and overset structured grids and related algorithms and tools.
  • Experience with analyzing CFD results for accuracy, and properly interpreting and presenting findings using commercial flow visualization software, such as Tecplot and Fieldview.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Internship in CFD
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Knowledge and application of the Tcl Scriptlib package and Build scripts (i.e. UNIX shell scripting, Tcl, Python scripting, FORTRAN coding) for automation of case setup and customization.
  • Experience with Kestrel (CREATE-AV) software.
  • Experience with MADCAP grid generation software.
  • Experience in CAD geometry manipulation/cleanup utilizing NX, CADFIX and/or SpaceClaim.
  • Experience in the use of Chimera Grid Tools (CGT), Pegasus and/or X-rays, and the OVERFLOW flow solver to model the flow domain, mesh and couple the grids.


Typical Education/Experience:
Typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
