Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced Systems Engineer . This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. REMOTE WORK OPTION IS AVAILABLE.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Performs requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of subsystem or system elements under supervision of the lead systems engineer
  • Primary tasking will be system integration and test (verification) involving requirements analysis, test case identification, test procedure development, test execution in a classified test environment, and problem investigation and resolution.
  • Problem resolution including requirements updates, design updates, and test regression throughout the test and integration period
  • Assigned project may consist of design of upgrades in system capabilities via software or hardware enhancements and Commercial Off The Shelf component refresh.
  • Requires SysML modeling to model new capabilities, and/or make changes to existing model(s) to address system changes during development and testing activities.
  • Daily engagement with and support for broader cross functional team (Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Cyber, SQA, specialty engineering)
  • Performs technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements
  • Performs detailed technical analyses for a subsystem or system elements
  • Researches and analyzes data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
  • May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
  • Independently determines proposed approach to solutions
  • Plans and executes project tasks for activities described above
  • Defines processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility
  • Regular contact with senior levels of internal work groups
  • Works under limited direction
  • Contact with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within the Engineering department and with project teams across the company
  • Contact with external customers
  • Occasional Travel may be required
  • Security clearance required
  • Independently determines approach to solutions
  • Keeps abreast of technology trends


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Flexible in terms of work schedule and ability to perform in-house test activities on-site in classified lab environment.
  • Experience developing/testing software intensive systems deployed on a distributed embedded system architecture.
  • Seeks to achieve and apply high level of system understanding through hands on time on system (eg testing) and leveraging of SME knowledge within the organization.
  • Requirement's analysis, test case development, and test case execution using DOORs
  • Proficient use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the US and UK Navy Fleet Ballistic Missile Program
  • Proficient knowledge of other related disciplines (Software, Electrical, Mechanical)
  • Proficient with requirements management & system modeling tools
  • Proficient written and verbal communications skills
  • Creative thinker
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
  • Proficient in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
  • Proficient in SAFe Agile



Note: The compensation information listed is a good faith estimate for this position only and is provided pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and Equal Pay Transparency Rules. It is estimated based on what a successful Colorado applicant might be paid. It assumes that the successful candidate will be in Colorado or perform the position from Colorado. Similar positions located outside of Colorado will not necessarily receive the same compensation.

If performed in Colorado, this position has a salary range of USD $103,000.00/Yr. - USD $114,000.00/Yr.
