The Opportunity – Engineer in Training
Hazen Canada is seeking an Engineer in Training with a passion for water to join our Calgary, Alberta office.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide project support to project leads, as assigned.
- Participate in development of project proposals.
- Participate in the preparation and updating of project workplans, budgets and schedules.
- Coordinate and help to facilitate internal and external project meetings.
- Prepare meeting minutes, project reports and communication materials.
- Conduct research as assigned.
- Participate in business development opportunities.
- Provide technical writing and editing support as requested.
- Attend occasional conferences and seminars.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- BSc in an engineering program, preferably environmental, civil or chemical.
- MSc in a related program an asset.
- Education or experience related to water a significant asset.
- Registered or able to register as an EIT with APEGA.
- Candidates should possess sufficient coding experience to independently develop and maintain production-quality Python and R workflows with minimal supervision and should not require extensive training in scripting, version control, or model post-processing techniques.
- Experience using Git and GitHub (or equivalent version-control platforms) to manage code, document workflows, maintain reproducible analyses, collaborate across technical teams, and track changes to modeling tools, scripts, and project deliverables.
- Excellent writing skills
- Excellent speaking and presentation skills.
- Fully proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software
- Understanding of water use in Alberta (industry, irrigation, agriculture, municipal, etc.) and climate adaption principals.
- Ability to provide project management support and to begin to lead small projects as skills develop.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of Alberta regulatory frameworks, water licencing and water-related Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and cascading regulations.
- Experience in an engineering consulting organization a significant asset
