About the Role
Audio is your passion, and with Harman’s Automotive business solutions you will shape the innovative concepts of tomorrows automotive industry. In this role, you will help create the future of audio in-car end-user experiences. With vehicle level knowledge and technical audio expertise, you will be an ambassador for the hardware and software integration of Harmans future automotive experiences.
As a system integration engineer for in-vehicle proof of concepts, you will be working close together with systems lead and architects, in planning and documenting hardware and software integration. As part of this you will be the key stakeholder supporting the fabrication team during the physical in-vehicle installations, system bring-up, software and system bench testing of the Harman Automotive concept creation.
What You Will Do
- As part of the cross-domain system engineering and experience assets, you will be leading the in-vehicle hardware and software system specification and integration for concept cars.
- Produce wring diagrams for systems, concepts, and prototypes.
- Specify system communication protocols (ex: CAN, LIN, MQTT, TCP, A2B)
- Bring up system bench for audio and UI component testing.
- Test and verify system lighting integration.
- Document project and system architectures
- Working knowledge of computer coding (Python, PHP, Java, C)
- Create HW & SW integration plans for concept builds and prototypes.
- Work together with internal and external partners from Audio, Software, Lighting, and Innovation teams
- Take part in the audio design and incubation of innovative vehicle networking, gateway, and technology concepts.
- Own and drive the physical in-vehicle system integration for Harman Automotive products, based on defined architectures and strategies.
- Closely collaborate with internal and external product and technology departments, architects, technology suppliers on relevant future technologies and product concepts
- Plan upcoming in-vehicle integration projects as well as running upgrades of existing assets and manage and document hardware and software needs.
- Support the fabrication team in the hands-on in-vehicle system integration and vehicle build.
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred in fields such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Networking, Acoustics or Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years working experience in system integration and Proof of Concept development.
- Excellent understanding of automotive networks like CAN bus, Ethernet Switch and PHY technologies and related protocols (AVB, TSN), and network security protocols
- Excellent Understanding of power distribution circuits, EMI, thermal design, rack layout, ground scheme, electrical design (noise, ESD, etc) for both analog and digital system.
- Understanding of audio system integration, high-speed networking, sensor, and audio measurement specifications.
- Knowledge of audio system componentry and design methodology
- Technical leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire people.
- Structured and analytical thinking as well as ability to think outside the box.
- Ability to create instructions and specifications that guides the engineering and fabrication teams to create the optimum in-vehicle system components installations.
- Creative and innovative problem solver and ability to adapt to dynamically adapt focus.
- Quick grasp and ability to quickly get used to new topics as well as a high degree of flexibility.
- Excellent English and Japanese communication skills
What is Nice to Have
- Master’s degree preferred in fields such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Networking, Acoustics or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in executing R&D and innovation projects.
- Experience in audio electronics engineering within the field of automotive
- Passion for automotive experiences and technologies
- Background and skills within multiple of the following areas: audio concepts, power distribution, functional safety, vehicle-level system dimensioning and partitioning
What Makes You Eligible
- Willingness to travel up to 20%, domestic and international travel.
- This position requires the use of a HARMAN or customer-owned vehicle. As such, any offer of employment will be contingent upon having a clean driving record, which will be evaluated and determined in HARMAN’s sole discretion, no more than 4 active points for moving violations (issued by any motor vehicle agency), and no references to operating a vehicle under the influence of controlled substances within the last 10 years.
