Systémový inženýr je zodpovědný za návrh, vývoj a sledování systému v průběhu projektu. Tato role vyžaduje tvorbu a zpřesňování systémových požadavků a systémové architektury. Dále zahrnuje pečlivé plánování a detailní zpracování systémových specifikaci tak, aby finální výrobek odpovídal jak požadavkům zákazníka, tak technickému zadání. Tato role dále zahrnuje odpovědnost za udržování integrity dat/dokumentace tak, aby bylo možno řídit změny a aby byla konfigurace dodávaného výrobku zdokumentovaná a reprodukovatelná.
Systémový inženýr úzce spolupracuje s ostatními rolemi v týmu, aby bylo zajištěno sladění systémového návrhu se specifikovanými požadavky. Podporuje další funkce a procesy.
Systémový inženýr je zodpovědný za testování, verifikaci a validaci s cílem zajistit evidenci, že navržený systém splňuje zadání.
Systémový inženýr může vykonávat v projektu různé role:
- Plní úkoly související s popisem role System Requirements Engineer / System Architect
- Plní úkoly související s popisem role System Integration Test Engineer / System Qualification Test Engineer
- Působí jako Change Control Board Member v projektovém týmu
- Působí jako Configuration Engineer v projektovém týmu

Skills Required
- Design and develop automotive systems (requirements, architecture, specifications)
- Create and refine system requirements and system architecture
- Plan and produce detailed system specifications to meet customer and technical requirements
- Maintain data and documentation integrity for change control and reproducibility (configuration management)
- Perform system testing, verification, and validation with traceable evidence
- Support system integration and system qualification testing activities
- Participate in Change Control Board activities and configuration engineering tasks
