Engineer Staff, Quality – Manufacturing QA
Location: Lumentum Thailand, Navanakorn – Pathum Thani
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Staff Quality Engineer to provide technical leadership for Manufacturing Quality Assurance within Lumentum’s optical and photonic manufacturing operations.
This role ensures that manufacturing processes, products, and quality controls comply with company procedures, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards. The position partners with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Product Engineering, NPI, and Supplier Quality teams to prevent quality risks, resolve complex production issues, and improve manufacturing quality performance.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Quality Assurance
Serve as the Manufacturing QA technical lead for assigned products or production areas.
Monitor manufacturing quality performance, including defects, yield loss, scrap, rework, process capability, and quality escapes.
Ensure production processes comply with control plans, work instructions, specifications, and quality requirements.
Review manufacturing and traceability records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Define inspection strategies, sampling plans, acceptance criteria, and quality controls.
Provide quality disposition for nonconforming products and support Material Review Board decisions.
Problem Resolution & Risk Management
Lead investigations into complex manufacturing, process, material, and workmanship issues.
Drive containment, root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and effectiveness verification.
Use 8D, CAPA, PFMEA, SPC, MSA, and other quality tools to reduce risks and prevent recurrence.
Escalate significant quality risks and communicate recovery plans to management and stakeholders.
NPI & Change Management
Lead manufacturing-quality readiness for NPI, product transfer, qualification, and production ramp-up.
Ensure PFMEA, control plans, inspection methods, traceability, and quality documentation are ready before production release.
Review engineering, material, equipment, and process changes to ensure quality risks are properly evaluated and controlled.
Quality Systems & Improvement
Ensure compliance with company quality systems, customer requirements, and applicable ISO standards.
Support internal, customer, and external audits and drive timely corrective-action closure.
Lead improvement projects to reduce defects, variation, scrap, rework, and cost of poor quality.
Provide technical guidance and coaching to Quality Engineers, technicians, inspectors, and production teams.
Promote strong manufacturing discipline, quality ownership, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Applied Science, or a related field.
Minimum 8–10 years of experience in manufacturing quality assurance or quality engineering.
Experience in optical, photonic, semiconductor, electronics, or high-technology manufacturing is strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of 8D, RCA, CAPA, PFMEA, control plans, SPC, MSA, DOE, and statistical analysis.
Experience managing manufacturing nonconformance, audits, process validation, NPI, and engineering changes.
Good understanding of ISO 9001 or comparable quality-management systems.
Strong technical leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional influencing skills.
Good command of written and spoken English.
