This role requires a dynamic individual capable of working closely with cross-functional product development teams to develop and enhance optical assembly processes for Lumentum’s cutting-edge optical products. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced environment, taking new concepts from prototyping through production ramp, and contributing to the development of leading-edge optoelectronic technologies. The main focuses may consist of:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product design engineers, equipment engineers, manufacturing teams, and external vendors to understand product design requirements and evaluate material systems for high-reliability, highly integrated optical devices.
• Lead material validation activities by designing and executing experiments (DOE) applying optomechanical principles, theories, and concepts to develop and optimize material system for optical active alignment and passive assembly processes, improving product performance and manufacturability.
• Develop and implement material characterization methodologies to optimize material systems, enhance process robustness, and ensure product reliability. Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in manufacturing environments.
• Foster effective cross-team collaboration by promoting information sharing and self-initiating communication across development teams.
• Perform detailed product failure analysis utilizing advanced characterization tools such as AFM, SEM, TEM, cross-sectional imaging, OFDR, optical interferometry, die-shear testing, DSC, and X-ray imaging.
• Conduct optical testing of newly developed free-space optical products, identifying root causes of failures and proposing corrective actions and improvements.
• Support new product introduction (NPI) activities by preparing required standard documents such as PFMEA, cycle time analysis, and failure analysis reports. Develop technical work instructions, standard operating procedures, visual aids, and provide training for NPI team members.
