We are currently looking for a highly motivated Engineer Advanced Technology (M/F/D) to join our Advanced Technology team in Munich, Germany. In this role, you will investigate high-speed coherent optical transmission technologies for optical satellite communications. You will develop new concepts, perform simulations, execute laboratory experiments, and collaborate with partners from industry and academia.

 

Principal Duties and Essential Functions

  • Contribute to research and innovation projects in the field of coherent optical communications
  • Develop, evaluate and test transceiver technologies for optical intersatellite and ground-to-space links
  • Analyse the impact of weather, atmosphere and satellite movements on the transmission performance
  • Perform laboratory experiments and field trials on optical systems and subsystem level
  • Complement experimental results with simulations using tools such as Python and MATLAB
  • Prepare reports and present results in meetings, in publications, and at conferences
  • Support the transfer of novel ideas into future products

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Communications Engineering, or a related field.
  • Good understanding of optical communication systems and digital communications.
  • Good programming skills (Python, MATLAB, C++ and similar).
  • Experience with laboratory measurements and use of communication test equipment.
  • Ability to analyze experimental data and prepare structured technical reports.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Innovative, highly motivated, hands-on personality.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English; German is a plus.
  • Ability to think analytically and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with coherent optical transmission technologies, advanced modulation formats, forward-error correction (FEC), and digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms
  • Experience with optical laboratory equipment such as high-speed oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analyzers, or optical power meters
  • Knowledge of free-space optical communications, satellite communications and mobile communications
  • Experience with simulation of communication systems and analysis of transmission impairments
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI for software development, report generation and automation of tasks
