Schedule: Part-Time, 3 - 10 hour days, 1 week per month, set schedule.


POSITION SUMMARY:


The GI technician/Endoscopy functions under the direct supervision of the Operating room Manager to assist with the operation of technical equipment used during simple and complex endoscopic procedures. The physician, registered nurse, and the GI technician work as a team in the procedure room to provide positive patient outcomes.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. High school diploma or equivalent 
  2. Previous experience in surgical or other medical setting desired 
  3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.  
  4. Ability to stand for extended periods, assist with patient positioning, lift more than 30 lbs, bend, and perform tasks requiring precision with hands.  
  5. Excellent organizational and communication skills 
  6. Current BLS Certification

  14. Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary and in a professional and friendly manner.

Specific Competencies:


  1. Preparation of Endoscopic Equipment: Ensure that all necessary Endoscopic instruments and equipment are sterile, properly maintained, and ready for use. 
  2. Assisting with Procedures: Assist the Endoscopist by preparing all supplies needed for each case, ensuring equipment is functioning before the start of each case, handling instruments during procedures, collecting biopsies, and ensuring the comfort and safety of patients. 
  3. Post-Procedure Clean-Up: Clean and disinfect endoscopic equipment and the procedure room following cases. The reprocessing of an endoscope is a multi-step process to prevent infections and ensure all equipment is sterilized and ready for future use.  
  4. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and procedures, adhering to hospital protocols and regulatory standards. 
  5. Collaboration and communication: Work closely with the surgical team and other clinical staff to provide safe patient care and support. 


Professional Requirements:

 

  1. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional.
  2. Completes annual education requirements if applicable.
  3. Maintains regulatory requirements.
  4. Wears identification while on duty.
  5. Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process.
  6. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
  7. Attends all meetings as appropriate.
  8. Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Mayers Memorial Hospital District in the performance of job duties.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  1. Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
  2. Is involved with personnel, visitors and government agencies, etc., when necessary.
  3. Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks and moves intermittently during working hours.
  2. Able to lift 20 lbs.
