THE ROLE
The Employment Specialist (Job Developer) supports clients in achieving financial stability through employment and education. This role partners closely with individuals in transitional housing to provide job readiness, career coaching, and direct connections to hiring employers across New York City. You will play a key role in helping clients secure, retain, and grow sustainable income that leads to long-term independence.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provide individualized employment support including résumé writing, interview coaching, and job application assistance
- Develop job opportunities by building relationships with employers, staffing agencies, and workforce partners
- Match clients to appropriate job openings and support them through the hiring process
- Connect clients to vocational training, education programs, and career advancement opportunities
- Facilitate job readiness workshops, computer skills training, and financial literacy sessions
- Plan and support hiring events such as job fairs and recruitment drives
- Track and document client progress in employment and income-building activities
- Collaborate with Case Managers, Housing staff, and other service providers to align employment goals with housing stability
- Utilize evidence-based approaches such as Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care to engage clients
WHO YOU WILL BE
- You will bring 2+ years of experience connecting people to jobs or career opportunities
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- You will have experience supporting adults in achieving employment goals, ideally in social services or workforce programs
- You will know how to build strong employer relationships and turn them into real job opportunities
- You will excel at coaching, motivating, and communicating with diverse clients
- You will stay organized and thrive managing multiple clients and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Please note:
One Saturday per month is required
One late night per week is required
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree
- 2+ years of experience connecting people to jobs or career opportunities
- Experience supporting adults in achieving employment goals (ideally in social services or workforce programs)
- Ability to build and maintain employer relationships to develop job opportunities
- Coaching, motivational, and strong communication skills with diverse clients
- Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple clients and priorities
