We are an in-office company, and our expectation is that full-time employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments. This in-office expectation does not apply to contractor positions

About the role

We are looking for talented and pragmatic Employment Counsel to join our growing legal team. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will serve as a foundational legal advisor on all global labor and employment matters. This high-visibility role requires a candidate who can synthesize rigorous legal analysis with a sophisticated business sense to develop and scale the policies and culture necessary to fuel our rapid global expansion.

This is a temporary role with flexibility for remote applicants that meet our role requirements.

At Applied Intuition, you will:
  • Provide real-time legal counsel and best practices to the People Team and business leaders on the full employee lifecycle, including headcount planning, performance management, and complex separations

  • Draft and maintain employee handbooks, employment contracts, offer letters, leave administration and internal policies to ensure compliance across all jurisdictions where we operate

  • Lead or advise on internal investigations into sensitive matters, ensuring they are handled with the utmost discretion and procedural fairness

  • Monitor evolving global labor laws and regulatory mandates, translating complex legal developments into actionable, scalable business workflows

  • Manage outside counsel for employment-related disputes and administrative charges, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality representation

  • Develop and deliver engaging training sessions for managers on topics like anti-harassment, interview best practices, and wage-and-hour compliance

We’re looking for someone who has:
  • A J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing

  • 5+ years of focused employment law experience. A mix of top-tier law firm training and in-house experience is preferred

  • Deep familiarity with US federal and California labor laws, with aptitude for expanding that expertise globally

  • The ability to deliver tough news with empathy and influence stakeholders without relying solely on your title

  • A proven track record of providing risk-adjusted, creative solutions to complex personnel challenges

Nice to have:
  • Expertise advising U.S.-based companies on international expansion, specifically within Germany, Japan, or South Korea

  • Employment litigation experience

  • Prior in-house experience at a high-growth technology, robotics or automotive company

  • Experience supporting a diverse workforce spanning software engineering, hardware research, and field operations

This is a temporary hourly position with an opportunity to convert based on performance. Applied Intuition pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum intended target hourly rate.

Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
