San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) envisions a future where health justice is achieved for all people living with or at risk for HIV. Our mission is to promote health, wellness, and social justice for communities most impacted by HIV through sexual health and substance use services, advocacy, and partnership. What is the position? 

Crucial to our work at SFAF is fostering a supportive, inclusive, and culturally informed work place. The Employee Relations Partner performs a variety of duties to promote employee welfare by resolving interpersonal conflicts, supporting positive team culture, and promoting employee development and well-being. They interview employees and discuss personnel, employee relations, and work-related problems that adversely affect morale, health, and productivity.  This person also evaluates and resolves employee relations, work-related problems, and meets with management to determine appropriate action.  An Employee Relations Partner explains and provides advice to managers and supervisors about policies, regulations, and procedures, and need for compliance. 

 

What are the main responsibilities?  

  • Manage a comprehensive employee relations and conflict resolution program. 
  • Lead employee investigations including issues involving policy violation, misconduct, or interpersonal conflict. 
  • Maintain a record of all investigations, communications, and counseling in various cases using proper documentation standards. Develop and complete required reports. 
  • Support managers struggling with their team’s performance through coaching, guidance on progressive counseling, and timely monitoring.   
  • In partnership with the Senior Director, People & Culture support and execute remediation efforts with staff from gentle coach up to and including delivering written warnings and terminations. 
  • Utilize strong coaching skills, provide advice, support and assistance to organizational managers by interpreting SFAF policies and procedures. Documenting employee relations and other personnel matters & procedures. 

 
Who are we looking for?  

  • You are a polished Human Resources professional, with refined interpersonal and organizational skills and at least 5 years of progressive human resources or employee relations.  
  • You can multitask and manage fluctuating workload while handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion.  
  • You have experience with employment law principles and conducting/advising on investigations of highly sensitive and nuanced workplace issues.  
  • You possess knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws.  
  • You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, ADP, ASANA and other HR systems. 
  • You have proven successful experience investigating Equal Employment Opportunity and other employment-related complaints, as well as interpreting policies and regulations, with demonstrated working knowledge of applicable employment laws, policies and procedures. 
  • You have proven successful interpersonal communication skills with individuals and teams at all levels, demonstrating flexibility and consideration across various styles of communication, fostering effective working relationships, maintaining confidences, and exercising sound judgment and discretion especially in dealing with sensitive, high risk, and complex legal and HR issues and situations. 
  • You have professional proficiency in spoken and written English. You can present recommendations logically and persuasively, with a proven ability to gather, document in a timely manner, analyze, and synthesize key insights gleaned from Investigation data and analytics. 

 
Where is the position located? 

This position is a hybrid role working from home the majority of the time. However the Employee Relations Partner should have a regular presence at our primary locations including but not limited to 940 Howard Street and 470 Castro Street in San Francisco. 

 
What we offer? 

Salary/: $95,000 - $106,000 

Benefits : SFAF is proud to offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package for our full-time employees. We offer combined PTO/Sick Time Off of 27+ days for the first two years of employment, 32+ days after two years of employment. For retirement we offer a 403(b) Plan and SFAF matches employee contributes (1 to 1) up to 3% of Salary.

Skills Required

  • At least 5 years of progressive human resources or employee relations experience
  • Experience with employment law principles and workplace investigations involving sensitive and nuanced issues
