At Reflect, you will be expected to move fast, have a lot of ownership and, most importantly, be able to effect change. If this excites you, we are interested in hearing about your best work and accomplishments across any domain and from any points in your life.
About the RoleAs an Embedded Software Engineer at Reflect, you will architect, write and test software that will control critical subsystems for our satellites. You will collaborate with other software and hardware engineers to design systems that not only enable control, update, and troubleshooting of the vehicle, but scale beyond initial missions as we build towards a full constellation. You will own the entire life cycle of software you develop, from design all the way through operation on-orbit.
ResponsibilitiesDeliver highly reliable, fault tolerant and remote-updatable software systems that are robust to the LEO environment.
Collaborate with avionics engineers on component and processor selection and electrical system architecture.
Implement and integrate software for electromechanical components such as star sensors, ADCS, motors, battery management systems, thermal systems, communication systems, sail deployment mechanisms, and cameras.
Design embedded software for ease of validation and implement automated testing, including unit tests, software simulation and HITL.
4–6 years of professional experience in embedded software development, ideally on spacecraft or other high-reliability systems
Experience in software development in languages like C, C++ and Python.
Thorough understanding of software design and architecture for both high reliability and scalability, including design for fault tolerance, reusability, validation, remote operation and update.
Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, including hands-on experience with board bring-up and using tools like DMMs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and power supplies.
Experience implementing device drivers and working with serial digital communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, and Ethernet.
Familiarity with Linux programming and image build systems (e.g., Yocto).
Ability to take initiative and tackle challenging problems both independently and as a team.
Even if you don’t meet 100% of the above qualifications, we are likely still interested in hearing from you. Hiring exceptional individuals is our #1 priority, and we believe that exceptional people often have highly unusual backgrounds.
We are also interested in carving out unique roles for unconventional people that we are excited about working with.

What We Do
Reflect Orbital is developing technology to sell sunlight to those who need it. We imagine a future where sunlight continues powering solar farms and providing lighting after the sun sets. We’re a small team of engineers who make progress by building things quickly and iteratively. Time is our greatest constraint. Join us.
