About the role:
As our Embedded Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced Engineers on real-world projects, gaining hands-on experience in hardware development. This role is ideal for someone looking to kick-start their career in hardware engineering and gain practical knowledge in a fast-paced environment. You will be based in our Palmerston North office, working alongside our other team members.
This contract:
- Is 12 weeks full-time fixed-term
- Starting 17 November through to February 2026
- Includes 2 weeks off over the Christmas/New Year period
Day to day in the role, you will:
- Assist with designing, building, and testing mechatronics systems and prototypes, taking ideas from concept to field deployment.
- Assist with hardware and firmware development across embedded, PC, and web applications.
- Explore and apply new technologies that push the boundaries of product design and performance.
- Turn customer insights into product improvements, collaborating with suppliers and research partners to bring solutions to life.
- Develop clear procedures and documentation that support smooth product releases and continuous improvement.
- Tackle complex technical challenges with a problem-solving mindset, driving innovation across hardware, firmware, and operations.
You will have:
- Experience with selection, configuration and programming of PC, embedded systems and user interfaces.
- Ability to assemble components and systems, including PCBs.
- Experience creating manufacturing documentation.
- Experience with ECAD tools for schematic capture, and the development process for printed circuit boards.
- Experience with a wide variety of automation components.
- The ability to communicate eloquently and work well within a team.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
- Eagerness to learn and contribute in a team-oriented environment.
To be eligible for this internship, you must:
- Be studying, or recently completed, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree or qualification at NZQA level 6-10. If your study has been completed, the closing date of your final semester should be less than 12 months ago.
- Be studying, or has studied, science, technology, engineering, design or business at a New Zealand tertiary education institute.
