The Role

This role is responsible for developing and implementing an independent compliance assurance program for Retail Banking Services. We are open to the role being based in Sydney or Perth.

RBS Compliance sits within the broader Group Operational Risk and Compliance division within CommBank, with a dotted reporting line through to the RBS Chief Risk Officer. The RBS Compliance Team consists of Regulatory Engagement, Regulatory Change, Incident and Issue Management, Compliance Advisory, and a Frameworks and Assurance team.  RBS also includes the Bankwest brand. 

In any given week you will be responsible for; 

  • Developing and executing effective testing and monitoring in line with the Group’s Line 2 Assurance guidance.

  • Maintaining a detailed understanding of RBS’s business and risk profile and advising on matters related to the compliance with our key legal and regulatory obligations.

  • Supporting the Head of Framework and Assurance across stakeholder management engagement with Group Compliance and RBS stakeholders.

  • Overseeing assurance work conducted in this team and in others, providing coaching and feedback on outputs and process quality.

  • Preparing reports and insights which will enable enhancement of our compliance framework and compliance with our obligations.

It also includes opportunities to follow all external regulatory change agenda and work with a range of business stakeholders to implement any change. The high profile nature of the work provides exposure to senior leaders and insights into business strategy.

We're interested in hearing from people who have: 

  • Proven experience in assurance roles, including Big4 internal audit or external audit, internal audit, and/or Line 2 assurance.

  • Strong working knowledge of financial services law and practice pertaining to retail banking services is desired, however a continued interest in learning is required.

  • Experience working with senior business leaders in managing issues/control gaps.

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high volume work environment.

  • Good judgement capability, and an ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner using a variety of information.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to inspire others to action.

  • Good people management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce a wide range of communications, including senior facing reports.

  • The ability to use data to identify issues and communicate concerns.
