This Role Is Ideal For
Engineers with experience in manufacturing test systems, electrical hardware, automation, or vehicle diagnostics who enjoy developing technical solutions, supporting plant operations, and improving vehicle quality through robust manufacturing processes.
WHY
Ensure vehicles are built right the first time by developing and deploying electrical test systems that improve defect detection, strengthen manufacturing quality, and support Electrical First Time Quality (EFTQ) across GM's global manufacturing network.
WHAT
As an Electrical Test Systems Engineer, you will lead the development, integration, and deployment of manufacturing test equipment used to validate vehicle electrical systems and components. You will work across engineering, suppliers, and plant teams to ensure test systems are reliable, scalable, and capable of supporting current and future vehicle architectures.
HOW
Partner with manufacturing plants, suppliers, product engineering, and quality organizations to develop test solutions, resolve technical issues, and implement systems that improve quality, throughput, and manufacturing readiness.
Work Arrangement - Onsite
The successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center on a full-time basis. This role requires up to 50% domestic and international travel.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Lead development and deployment of electrical test systems supporting manufacturing operations.
  • Define equipment requirements, validation plans, and technical specifications for new and existing test systems.
  • Coordinate integration of electrical hardware, software, and manufacturing equipment to support production requirements.
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, validation, and launch support for electrical test equipment in manufacturing environments.
  • Drive resolution of complex technical issues affecting electrical test systems, equipment reliability, and production performance.
  • Partner with suppliers, manufacturing plants, quality teams, and engineering organizations to ensure successful implementation and ongoing support.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on defect detection, equipment performance, manufacturing efficiency, and Electrical First Time Quality (EFTQ).
  • Provide technical leadership for future manufacturing technologies, test strategies, and equipment standardization efforts.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 3+ years of experience supporting electrical hardware, manufacturing equipment, test systems, automation systems, or vehicle electrical architectures.
  • Experience developing, integrating, commissioning, or supporting manufacturing test equipment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical troubleshooting, and hardware integration.
  • Experience with electrical testing, diagnostics, validation, or manufacturing quality systems.
  • Ability to identify root causes, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement corrective actions in production environments.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing operations teams.
  • Strong communication and project leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience with continuity testing, resistance testing, functional test systems, or end-of-line validation equipment.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with PLCs, controls systems, industrial networking, or manufacturing automation.
  • Experience supporting vehicle launches or manufacturing readiness activities.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing quality processes and defect detection strategies.
  • Experience working with suppliers on equipment development and deployment.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent technical experience.

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location on a full-time basis.
The selected candidate will be required to travel on a regular basis (25-50%) for this role.
