Socomec Group (Socomec) is a global leader in electrical equipment engineering and manufacturing, specialized in low voltage energy performance.
Socomec North America (NAM) is Socomec’s organization overseeing all operations in North America.
About This Role
This position provides local engineering support to the Suwanee/Atlanta manufacturing operations for PDU, Static Transfer Switch, and UPS products. The role helps ensure that manufacturing activities are supported with accurate engineering information, timely issue resolution, and practical process-improvement recommendations.
Key support activities include BOM restructuring, identifying second-source electrical components, ERP-related engineering updates, investigating manufacturing issues, clarifying drawings, providing production support, and proposing improvements based on issues observed during manufacturing.
When local manufacturing-support demand does not fully utilize available capacity, the position may also support design and engineering assignments from the Canada engineering team. This includes converting customer and project requirements into safe, accurate, manufacturable, and standards-compliant electrical solutions.
The role contributes to cost optimization by identifying practical opportunities to improve material selection, support component standardization, evaluate second-source alternatives, reduce manufacturing inefficiencies, and recommend design or process improvements that lower cost while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance requirements.
All work must follow established engineering governance, review, approval, change-control, quality, and regulatory-compliance processes to support reliable product delivery and manufacturing execution.
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
- Provide day-to-day electrical engineering support to Suwanee/Atlanta manufacturing, including investigation and resolution of production, assembly, wiring, test, and documentation issues.
- Review and restructure engineering and manufacturing bills of material (BOMs) to improve clarity, manufacturability, configuration control, and alignment with local production processes.
- Identify and technically evaluate second-source components and suppliers; prepare qualification information, risk assessments, test requirements, and recommendations for engineering approval.
- Support ERP-related engineering activities, including item setup, BOM accuracy, routing or configuration clarification, data cleanup, and coordination of approved engineering changes.
- Clarify released drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, work instructions, and production packages for manufacturing teams without independently changing controlled documents.
- Analyse recurring manufacturing issues and propose product, documentation, tooling, or process improvements based on production experience, quality data, and lessons learned.
- Develop or support validation plans, production test procedures, prototype builds, troubleshooting, and implementation of approved corrective actions.
- When local manufacturing-support workload permits, execute appropriate design-related assignments from the Brampton engineering team, including engineering documentation and electrical design support.
- Prepare proposed changes to drawings, BOMs, electrical schematics, compliance documentation, and product configurations, and route them through the required engineering review, approval, and formal change-control process before implementation.
- Collaborate with Brampton engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, product management, service, suppliers, and NRTL/compliance stakeholders to meet safety, quality, delivery, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Qualifications, Experience, And Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline; a master's degree is an asset.
- P.E./P.Eng. designation, Engineer-in-Training status, or progress toward professional licensure is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering experience, including hands-on support in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Experience with power distribution equipment, electrical panels, controls, production testing, troubleshooting, and product documentation is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with BOM management, component qualification or second sourcing, ERP engineering data, and formal engineering change-control processes.
- Experience supporting ETO and/or CTO products and collaborating with remote or multi-site engineering teams is preferred.
