Description

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, support, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of electrical and control systems used in plastic extrusion manufacturing. This role supports extrusion lines, downstream equipment, material handling systems, and plant automation by improving reliability, safety, process consistency, and overall equipment performance.

Requirements

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Support electrical and controls systems for plastic extrusion lines and related downstream equipment

· Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, drives, motors, sensors, heaters, and temperature control systems

· Program, modify, and maintain control systems for extrusion, cooling, conveying, cutting, and packaging equipment

· Lead electrical and controls improvements to increase uptime, throughput, and process stability

· Support startup, commissioning, and validation of new extrusion lines, auxiliaries, and automation projects

· Create and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, I/O lists, and controls documentation

· Work with Operations, Maintenance, Process Engineering, and Quality to resolve line performance issues

· Develop and improve standard controls architecture across extrusion assets

· Support integration of VFDs, servos, data collection systems, and plant network communications

· Ensure equipment and controls comply with plant safety standards and electrical codes

· Assist with preventive maintenance strategies for controls and electrical systems

· Support vendors and contractors during installation, debugging, and project execution

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

· Strong working knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting

· Experience with HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, industrial networks, and instrumentation

· Ability to read and create electrical drawings, schematics, and panel documentation

· Understanding of heaters, thermocouples, pressure transducers, load monitoring, and process

feedback systems

· Familiarity with NEC, UL, NFPA 70E, and machine safety practices

· Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms

· Extruder controls, melt pumps, gravimetric blending, material handling, and downstream automation

· Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, or other industrial communication protocols

· Motion control, closed-loop process control, and industrial data systems

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered

· 3–8+ years of experience in industrial electrical engineering or controls engineering

· Experience with plastic extrusion, converting, or continuous process manufacturing preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. 

· Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered
  • 3-8+ years of experience in industrial electrical engineering or controls engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting
  • Experience with HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, industrial networks, and instrumentation
  • Ability to read and create electrical drawings, schematics, and panel documentation
