What we need  

Symbotic is seeking Electrical Engineers at all levels to join our Mobile Robotics Electrical Engineering team. This role drives innovation throughout the team, engineering products from concepts, design, test, production, and beyond. The individual will contribute side by side with highly talented Mechanical, Embedded, Compliance, Systems, and Project Engineers.    

What we do  

We are a fast-growing team designing mobile robots with a focus on new product development. Working cross functional to define requirements, architecture, specifications, PCA design, and initial robot bring up.  

What you’ll do 

  • Lead and contribute to electrical engineering activities in all phases, from specification and design to implementation and verification/validation testing. 

  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, PCB layouts, drawings, and bill of materials (BOMs) for PCAs. 

  • Conduct research, analyses, and down-selection of solutions for electrical system designs. 

  • Oversee technical activities for assigned projects and ensure design integration with electro-mechanical and software systems. 

  • Apply model-based design and simulation techniques to optimize systems and ensure design accuracy before implementation. 

  • Collaborate on mechatronics design and mechanisms, integrating electrical and mechanical components to enhance overall system performance. 

  • Design and develop custom motor and power electronics solutions, tailored to meet the unique demands of cutting-edge robotics applications. 

  • Focus on reliability engineering, identifying potential risks and implementing strategies to enhance system robustness and longevity. 

  • Develop and optimize bot power and signal distribution systems, ensuring efficient, reliable delivery of electrical power and communication signals throughout mobile robotic platforms. 

  • Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to define mechanical interfaces for power and signal pathways. 

  • Provide mentorship and guidance for other electrical engineers on the team. 

  • Travel up to 50% to customer sites to support new installations.

What you’ll need 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in electrical design. 

  • Hands-on experience with model-based design tools and methodologies. 

  • Proficiency in designing and integrating mechatronics systems. 

  • Expertise in custom motor and electronics design for advanced applications. 

  • Knowledge of reliability engineering principles and practices. 

  • Familiarity with local and national standards (UL, EN, IEC) is a plus. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Initiative and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential. 

Our Environment 

  • Up to 50% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations. 

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis. 

The base range for this position in Bay Area, California is $105,000 - $172,000; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonus and equity may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits based on the position offered. This information is provided per the California Salary Transparency Law.
