Equinox Engineering is seeking a high-intermediate to Senior Electrical Designer to join our multidisciplinary Electrical Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience, strong 3D modelling capabilities, and proven design lead experience within oil & gas, pipelines, and industrial facilities. This role will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical design packages, coordinating with engineering and drafting teams, and providing technical mentorship within the group
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting
- Prepare and develop electrical deliverables including:
- Single line diagrams
- Schematics and wiring diagrams
- Lighting layouts
- Power distribution drawings
- Cable tray routing
- Grounding layouts
- Motor control and equipment layouts
- Perform 3D modelling of electrical systems in accordance with project standards.
- Develop and maintain design models and ensure integration with other disciplines (Piping, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, etc.).
Technical Expertise
- Apply knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and industry practices (e.g., CEC, CSA, IEEE).
- Support engineering with load lists, equipment specifications, and review of vendor data.
- Ensure designs align with project scope, quality standards, and client requirements.
- Leadership & Coordination
- Act as Design Lead for electrical design scopes as required.
- Coordinate and review work from junior designers and drafters; provide mentorship and technical guidance.
- Participate in model reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and client technical discussions.
- Support the development of estimates, schedules, and work plans for electrical design activities.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Minimum 10+ years of electrical design experience within EPC or industrial project environments.
- Strong 3D modelling experience (e.g., SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, CADWorx, or equivalent).
- Previous Lead Designer experience overseeing design deliverables and guiding drafting teams.
- Demonstrated understanding of electrical power distribution (LV/MV), grounding, lighting, MCCs, motor control, cable tray design, and hazardous area classifications.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interface confidently with engineers, project managers, and clients.
