Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitates Process Hazard Analysis (HAZOP) associated with Process Safety Management activities.
- Ensures a safe and quality working environment through training, awareness, and compliance to safety SOP’s, corporate standards, EPA, and OSHA regulations.
- Contributes as a team member in analyzing and continually improving the site’s Safety Culture.
- Experience with the development of Job Safety analyses (JSA’s) and risk assessments.
- Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state environmental and occupational safety/health standards.
- Investigates injuries, employee complaints, and incidents. Makes evaluations and recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
- Experience with developing and delivering training in a group setting on various EHS topics.
- Provides input on equipment installation, start-up operation and trouble shooting.
- Supplies the highest level of internal and external customer service while having the ability to diplomatically challenge established procedures and systems.
- Experience with developing and updating EHS related standard operating procedures.
- Works with facility departments to identify and remediate hazards.
- Serve on the site Emergency Response Team.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.
- Required to participate in department on-call schedule.
- Assists with project reviews for compliance needs.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders as required.
- Ability to don personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection and full-body harness.
- Ability to lift (minimum) of 50 lbs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, chemical engineering, or related technical field.
Experience:
5 – 10 years of directly related experience in EHS roles.
Prior experience in a pharmaceutical, chemical, or manufacturing environment preferred.
Skills/Qualifications:
Other Skills:
Ability to walk and climb, wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as Level A and B Hazmat suits and respiratory equipment.
Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ACGIH, ASME and other health and safety related regulatory and consensus standards.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and technical writing skills.
Team orientation/strong team player, who builds positive relationships with others.
Ability to handle multiple priorities as assigned by supervisor.
Detail-oriented with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
Competent conflict management skills.
Must be able to work as a team member in a fast paced environment.
Experience with a wide variety of unit operations and both batch and continuous processes.
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, from operations to management, both oral and written format.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel
RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS/ SCOPE:
- This position reports to the site EHS&S Manager.
- The EHS Specialist supports the EHS goals and functions of the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
- This position interacts with all levels of the facility Production Operators to Senior Site Leadership.
- This position will predominantly interact with manufacturing, maintenance, and medical departments.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This position works both in the Office and Plant setting, both indoors and outdoors.
- Outdoor conditions will include the temperature and weather extremes.
- Work outside of normal business hours may be required including working early, staying after normal working hours, weekend work, or holiday work.
- This position will rotate on-call duties, which include weekend/holiday coverage of plant operations.
- Physical demands of this job include climbing stairs and extensive periods of walking and standing.
Exposure to fugitive emissions of chemicals typical for chemical operations. - Must be able wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc., as deemed necessary by EHS.
