The EHS / Safety Engineer is responsible for maintaining, improving, and enforcing existing Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and Safety SOPs, as well as developing new programs and SOPs. This role serves as the technical authority for wafer fab safety engineering and ensures regulatory compliance while maintaining strong working relationships and reporting practices with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

The EHS / Safety Engineer will partner closely with Operations, Facilities, and Engineering to ensure safe tool operation, process integration, and personnel protection, while aligning all activities with regulatory and company requirements.

Objectives:
  • Own and continuously improve Atomica’s EHS and Safety programs across cleanroom, laboratory, and facilities operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA/Cal-OSHA, Fire Code, CUPA, DTSC, air permitting (APDC), stormwater, and industrial wastewater requirements.
  • Serve as the primary regulatory liaison, leading inspections, audits, agency communications, and follow-up actions.
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and completeness of environmental and safety reporting, including oversight of laboratory analysis data and routine monitoring.
  • Act as the wafer fab safety subject matter expert, supporting tool installations, process changes, job hazard analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Develop and implement safety guidelines and controls for new materials, chemistry, tools, and processes.
  • Manage and execute hazardous materials and hazardous waste programs.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and regulatory reporting.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs, including new-hire orientation and refresher training.
  • Own site emergency response and preparedness programs, including fire and gas alarms, spill response, drills, and coordination with emergency responders.
  • Identify, monitor, document, and report non-compliance, driving corrective and preventive actions.

Capabilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combinations of education and EHS/Safety experience will be considered.
  • 4+ years of EHS and Safety experience in the semiconductor industry; experience in legacy or mature CMOS fabs is a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently, exercise sound judgment, and influence across all levels of the organization.
  • CSP, CIH, CHMM, or similar professional certification preferred.

Compensation:  
$80,000-$115,000 
*Atomica encourages applications from candidates at all levels where pay will be based on experience.*
