Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer - Job Description
Stoneridge is seeking a proactive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer to support our operations in Sweden.
The role is key to fostering a strong culture of safety, health, and environmental responsibility in alignment with global EHS strategies and local Swedish legislation. This position works closely with Operations, Focus Factory Leaders, and Human Resources to implement safety improvements, ensure compliance with Swedish environmental and occupational health regulations, and manage risk at the site level.
Responsibilities:
- Lead EHS activities in Orebro and Solna
- Lead Local EHS Programs: Champion and implement EHS initiatives with the goal of achieving a zero-injury workplace.
- Ensure Legal Compliance: Monitor and ensure full compliance with Swedish EHS regulations.
- Incident Management: Maintain and update the Incident Reporting System; coordinate root cause analysis and corrective actions for workplace incidents, near-misses, and safety observations.
- Risk Assessments & Audits: Conduct regular risk assessments and EHS audits; resolve non-conformities and drive continuous improvements.
- Behavior-Based Safety: Lead the site’s STOP (Safety Training Observation Program), promoting a proactive safety culture.
- Design-In-EHS Process: Collaborate with the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team to integrate EHS principles into new equipment and process designs.
- Training & Awareness: Deliver EHS training sessions as required, including onboarding, first responder training, chemical safety, and emergency procedures.
- Waste & Environmental Management: Manage hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal according to Swedish and EU standards. Coordinate sampling and permitting industrial wastewater, ensuring compliance with municipal environmental requirements.
- Emergency Preparedness: Coordinate emergency response teams, fire drills, and site evacuation procedures.
- Performance Monitoring: Work with HR and Finance to track and analyze key EHS performance indicators.
- Documentation: Develop and maintain local EHS procedures, policies, and work instructions in accordance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS related areas including Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- English proficiency required.
- 3-5 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Skills Required:
- Extensive knowledge of local EHS regulatory requirements
- Experience mitigating risks related to warehouse operations.
- Experience or working knowledge of ISO 14001, and ISO 45001
- Experience working with hazardous chemical materials, including handling, and disposing of hazardous waste.
- Experience in emergency preparation and response.
- Proficient in safety behavior-based observations.
- Experience delivering EHS training.
- Practical experience with external audits and continuous improvement of the Environmental and Health and Safety Management Systems
