The Editor is responsible for planning, creating, editing, writing and/or managing content for brands within the Numismatics Community’s online, digital and print channels. The position requires a highly detail-oriented and organized professional who can develop a familiarity with multiple systems/programs and demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced, news-driven environment. Proficiency in writing and editing news and feature stories as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and operate under multiple deadlines are a must. The editor will work closely with the Community’s other editorial team members and manage a team of freelance editors and will report directly to the General Manager.
Professional Responsibilities
- 50% - Assign, create, edit, and approve content for publication in the company's three print publications, websites and social media platforms.
- 20% - Manage relationships with a network of external freelance writers, determining writing assignments as well as negotiating contract terms.
- 15% - Oversee and direct operations for annual Coin of the Year awards, including, but not limited to, communicating the call for nominations, hosting of nomination committee meeting(s), balloting and all related publicity and outreach surrounding this program to maximize reach within the numismatic industry.
- 5% - Execute budgetary discipline, ensuring brand spending is aligned with established budget.
- 5% - Collaborate with advertising sales representatives, utilizing content publication to generate additional advertising opportunities
- 5% - Communicate with readers. The Editor serves as the voice of the publication and respectfully responds to inquiries and suggestions from readers, encouraging ongoing dialogue, whether in print or digital form.
Professional Qualifications
Professional demeanor is a must for all positions at Active Interest Media. In addition to courteous, friendly, businesslike behavior, the following qualifications are fundamental to this position
- BS/BA in Communications, English or other relevant degree.
- Minimum of five years’ experience editing.
- Proficient with use of AP style, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop and InDesign), and Microsoft Office 365 strongly preferred
- Experience using HubSpot and Google Analytics a plus.
- Interest in coin or paper money collecting, as well as history in general would be beneficial to the ideal candidate.
- Must be proficient in writing and editing ,adhering to AP style guidelines.
- Employee must be adaptive, hard-working, well organized, able to multi-task and manage their time well to ensure all deadlines are met. Must be a team player, but also able to work independently.
