Position Purpose
The Information Systems Project Manager opportunity with PGL is designed for an industry expert who is ready to plan, initiate, and manage EDI as well as Logistics Information Systems projects.
Tasks
- Test, maintain, and monitor computer programs and systems, including coordinating the installation of computer programs and systems.
- Coordinate and link PGL systems to increase compatibility so that information can be shared.
- Troubleshoot program and system malfunctions to restore normal functioning.
- Expand or modify system to serve new purposes or improve workflow.
- Provide Operations and Sales with analysis and solution of business problems, such as development of integrated production and inventory control and cost analysis systems.
- Consult with management to ensure agreement on system principles.
- Confer with clients regarding the nature of the information processing or computation needs a computer program is to address.
- Develop, document, and revise system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.
- Train staff and users to work with computer systems and programs.
- Assess the usefulness of pre-developed application packages and adapt them to a user environment.
- Define the goals of the system and devise flow charts and diagrams describing logical operational steps of programs.
- Provide staff and users with assistance solving computer-related problems, such as malfunctions and program problems.
- Collaborate with engineers or software developers to select appropriate design solutions or ensure the compatibility of system components.
- Identify system data, hardware, or software components required to meet user needs.
- Communicate with staff or clients to understand specific system requirements.
- Manage project execution to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and scope.
- Confer with project personnel to identify and resolve problems.
- Monitor or track project milestones and deliverables.
- Submit project deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Assess current or future customer needs and priorities by communicating directly with customers, conducting surveys, or other methods.
Detailed Work Activities
- Manage information technology projects or system activities.
- Collaborate with others to resolve information technology issues.
- Develop detailed project plans and workflows with Finance, Operations, Sales, and/or Management to ensure proper systems operations within our Logistics/Transportation Management Systems.
- Collect data about customer needs.
- Work directly with information technology personnel to build and execute EDI Solutions.
- Analyze security of systems, network, or data.
- Develop guidelines for system implementation.
- Identify information technology project resource requirements.
- Analyze data to identify trends or relationships among variables.
- Prepare analytical reports.
- Participate in strategic decisions.
- Manage appropriate resource allocation.
- Develop information communication procedures.
- Analysis of project objectives and realistic timelines for effective deliverables.
- Coordinate resource procurement activities.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of international and/or domestic logistics exposure/experience working directly with a freight forwarder
- Project management experience
- Experience in managing API/EDI integration endeavors
- Skilled in developing sophisticated logistics/transportation and/or warehouse management systems
- Ideally experienced in system changeover/conversion/new system adoption
Education (some or all of the following):
- Bachelors degree in logistics/supply chain preferred
- Industry specific certifications/credentials
