We are currently seeking applicants for an Economic Development Specialist in our Member Services & Corporate Communications Division located in Springfield, MO. This position provides member cooperatives with economic development assistance and expertise to support economic vitality and electric load growth opportunities throughout the three-state service territory.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Provide direct business development assistance to member cooperatives for recruitment of companies, existing business expansion/retention and key account management to support system load growth.
- Deliver additional development assistance including preparation and presentations of proposals, project financing, grant writing, industry research, development training, rate information and marketing/promotional support as needed.
- Coordinate AECI’s economic development marketing activities, including economic development website, site selector/tradeshow events and other external partner communications.
- Coordinate AECI’s economic and community development training and communication activities including quarterly member training, monthly member newsletter and other activities as needed.
- Effectively plan, develop, and lead economic/community development programs through AECI’s Power for Progress initiative to provide direct resources for members to accomplish their economic and community development goals, and monitor results.
- Serve as a liaison with cooperative member systems, business organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, and other external partners to build and maintain awareness of cooperative member systems and their economic and community development activities.
- Build and cultivate relationships with external partners to coordinate and support business and community development projects for the purpose of load growth and job creation throughout the Associated system.
- Maintain current knowledge of federal and state economic development programs, financing, and incentives within the Associated service area.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, finance, public relations, communications or related field or commensurate experience.
- One to two years of experience in traditional economic and community development activities like business recruitment, expansion, retention, and marketing is preferred, but all levels will be considered.
- Current working knowledge of the cooperative business model and electric utility background is preferred.
- Certified Economic Developer credential is required for progression; may be obtained and maintained after hire.
- Successful candidates will demonstrate problem solving and relationship building skills as well as a strong work ethic and excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Job duties often involve time worked outside of normal weekly schedules, including travel in state and out of state. This obligation requires approximately 20% travel per year. Additional travel within the Cooperative system during normal work hours will require time outside the office an average of 40% of a normal work week.
