Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Above Ground Storage Tank (AST) Drafter to join our engineering team in the oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating precise technical drawings and plans for the design, fabrication, and installation of above-ground storage tanks used in the storage of petroleum products, chemicals, and other liquids. This role requires proficiency in drafting software, a strong understanding of tank construction principles, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting and Design: Create detailed technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics for above-ground storage tanks (ASTs) in compliance with industry standards, such as API 650, API 653, API 620, ASME and other relevant codes and regulations.
- Tank Layouts and Site Plans: Develop accurate layout designs for tank installations, ensuring that all tanks are positioned correctly within the storage facility, considering safety, accessibility, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaboration with Engineers: Work closely with structural and mechanical engineers to integrate necessary technical specifications and ensure that designs meet safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
- Material and Component Specifications: Assist in the selection of materials (plate, pipe, flanges, etc.) and components (foundations, nozzles, vents, etc.) for tank construction based on design parameters and environmental conditions.
- Modifications and Updates: Revise and update existing tank designs and drawings based on changes to project scope, site conditions, and client feedback.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of drawings, revisions, and related documentation for project tracking, compliance audits, and future reference.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all drawings are accurate, error-free, and in accordance with industry codes and company standards, including ensuring consistency across all project documentation.
- Review of Construction Drawings: Provide support for the review of tank construction drawings and field reports to ensure alignment with original design specifications during the construction and installation phases.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with changes in industry regulations and ensure all designs comply with local, national, and international standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, and relevant environmental and safety codes).
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience is preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in drafting or design within the oil and gas industry, specifically related to above-ground storage tanks (ASTs) is preferred.
- Familiarity with API 650, API 653, API 620, ASME, and other relevant industry standards is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD).
- Strong understanding of tank design, materials, and fabrication processes is preferred.
- Experience with structural design and site planning is a plus.
- Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of the design, construction, and operation of above-ground storage tanks (ASTs) for the oil and gas industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., API 650, API 653, API 620, ASME, OSHA, PIP) is a plus.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to produce high-quality, accurate technical drawings and documentation.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with engineers, project managers, clients, and vendors.
- Problem Solving: Ability to identify issues with designs, offer solutions, and work proactively to resolve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tank inspection, maintenance, or construction is a plus.
- Certification in AutoCAD or other drafting software is an advantage.
