The Role
Job Role: Disaster Recovery Consultant
Roles & Responsibilities
Understand enterprise application architectures and map application dependencies on the underlying storage, server, operating system, database, virtualization platform, network and firewall infrastructure and dependencies on other enterprise applications in the customers production and DR environments / cloud environments
Understand DR process automation platforms and innovate to optimize recovery time objectives by automating DR process workflows
Co-ordinate with enterprise application and infrastructure (storage, server, operating systems, database, virtualization, network, firewall and information security, cloud) teams
Work with the customer DR focal to document and maintain the enterprise IT DR plan documentation
Work on detailed planning for mock test drills and live DR drills in co-ordination with enterprise IT and business teams
Maintain runbooks and DR recovery procedures for enterprise applications
Maintain a satisfactory security and compliance posture for the DR environment and DR processes and interface with IT and BCP internal and regulatory auditors
Participate in planning and execution meetings
Coordinate table-top exercises as required
Plan and update the DR drill calendar in consultation with the customer DR focal and regularly communicate the DR drill calendar schedule to the concerned stakeholders
Plan, orchestrate, execute, and report on mock test drills and live DR drills
For DR related incidents work on RCA if any and communicate updated documents to the relevant stake holders
Track DR drill success ratios and ensure DR exercise plans and DR execution reports are prepared and submitted as per agreed TATs
Develop operational technical assets in the form of DR plans, DR exercise plans, DR execution reports, Technical Recovery Guides (TRGs)
Continue to develop subject matter expertise through external and internal training and excel as a trusted advisor on the latest Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity areas
Engage with Customer teams when required and provide subject matter expertise / demo’s and participate in executive briefings with the customer. This involves advising, briefing and presenting to senior customer executives
Required Expertise:
Understanding of global disaster recovery and business continuity standards and processes
Ability to document disaster recovery process steps at the appropriate level of detail and innovate to optimize recovery time and recovery point objectives
Understanding of enterprise application and infrastructure (storage, server, virtualization, database, network and firewall) architecture
Ability to map and document application to application dependencies in an enterprise environment
Experience on KRO/KIRS/Ansible DR automation platform or similar DR automation platform
Understanding of enterprise IT incident, problem, and change management processes
Ability to create DR exercise plans that meet the exercise objective in collaboration with application and infrastructure teams
Strong understanding of data protection (backup & recovery, DR, storage replication, native database replication, file replication) technologies for enterprise applications running on-premise or cloud infrastructure platforms
Hands-on experience with standalone and clustered UNIX and Windows platforms
Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix Xenapp)
Ability to develop and maintain shell / powershell / python / TCL/ Bicep/Ansible Playbooks or similar scripts.
Ability to develop scripts to integrate with external enterprise tools / systems via CLIs / APIs
Understand storage replication technologies in various DR scenarios
Understand native database replication technologies in various DR scenarios
Understand virtual machine (hypervisor) level replication technologies
Experience working on on-premises / cloud / hybrid cloud infrastructure
Preferred Expertise:
Cyber (IT) security experience
DR / BCP audit experience
