Position Summary:
Forward Edge-AI is seeking a transitioning Service member to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program as a Process Documentation & Business Operations Lead supporting a Department of the Air Force business operations and digital transformation program.

The participant will work with Government and Forward Edge-AI stakeholders to capture and document complex business processes, operational procedures, roles, responsibilities, systems, decision points, and organizational dependencies.

A major focus is conducting structured discovery sessions and process walkthroughs with Government Action Officers, translating current operations into sustainable artifacts, and identifying process gaps, risks, bottlenecks, unclear responsibilities, manual workarounds, and undocumented institutional knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead structured discovery interviews and process walkthroughs with Government Action Officers, functional leads, and other stakeholders.
  • Review existing policies, procedures, guidance, templates, systems, workflows, and supporting documentation before discovery sessions.
  • Document end-to-end current-state business processes, including triggers, activities, decision points, hand-offs, dependencies, systems, inputs, outputs, controls, and responsible organizations.
  • Translate interviews and walkthroughs into standardized SOPs, desktop procedures, process maps, workflow diagrams, RACI matrices, checklists, decision guides, templates, and quick-reference materials.
  • Identify gaps between documented procedures and actual execution, including risks, bottlenecks, duplicative activities, unclear ownership, manual workarounds, single points of failure, and institutional-knowledge dependencies.
  • Identify opportunities for standardization, simplification, automation, or future improvement while clearly distinguishing current-state documentation from recommendations.
  • Conduct playback and validation sessions with Action Officers and incorporate feedback using appropriate configuration and version control.
  • Elevate unresolved questions or decisions through established channels and track artifacts through validation, leadership review, and completion.
  • Support an organized repository of approved operational documentation and provide status updates on artifacts, risks, dependencies, and validation activities.
  • Provide guidance and quality review to other SkillBridge Process Documentation Analysts, as assigned.
Typical Deliverables:
  • Standard Operating Procedures and desktop procedures / work instructions
  • Current-state process maps and workflow diagrams
  • RACI / roles and responsibilities matrices
  • Process inputs and outputs, system and tool inventories
  • Risk and gap registers; decision and escalation matrices
  • Process checklists, templates, standardized forms, and quick-reference guides
  • Discovery and validation records; artifact maturity and status tracking
Required Qualifications:
  • Current U.S. Armed Forces Service member eligible and approved, or able to obtain approval, for participation in DoD SkillBridge.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting, managing, executing, or improving operational or administrative processes.
  • Experience in a structured military, DoD, federal, or comparable organizational environment.
  • Ability to conduct structured interviews and translate complex discussions into clear written documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and written communication skills, with the ability to identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and unclear responsibilities.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and related productivity tools.
  • Ability to interact professionally with senior military, civilian, contractor, and functional stakeholders and work independently within established review processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting Headquarters Air Force, a Major Command, Combatant Command, Joint Staff, Service headquarters, or another senior DoD organization.
  • Experience as an Action Officer, staff officer/NCO, program manager, project manager, executive support professional, inspector, process manager, or operations lead.
  • Experience developing SOPs, operating instructions, policy/procedure documentation, continuity books, process maps, or similar artifacts.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma, continuous process improvement, Agile, project management, quality management, or organizational change.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Visio, Power BI, SharePoint, Power Automate, or comparable workflow/documentation tools.
  • PMP, Lean Six Sigma, Scrum, or related certification.
