£23,794 per annum (pro-rata if part-time)
Part-time and Full-time options available between 10 to 36 hours per week. Work schedules are flexible between the hours of 05:00-19:00, Monday to Friday; hours worked can be between 2 to 8 per day.
This is fixed-term position for 1 year to provide maternity leave cover.
Overall purpose:
As a valued member of our Domestic Services team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB).
Main duties/ Key responsibilities:
We maintain a high standard of cleanliness across all areas for our scientific/administrative staff and visitors.
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Emptying bins and replacing liners
• Waste segregation and maximising recycling
• Vacuuming and sweeping floors
• Mopping floors and operating cleaning machinery
• Polishing surfaces
• Cleaning sanitary areas, including kitchenettes and toilets
• Topping up hand towel and soap dispensers
• Dusting
• Glass cleaning
• Providing cover during staff sickness and holidays
Working relationships:
You will report directly to the Domestic Services Manager and/or Domestic Services Supervisors, working collaboratively as part of a professional and supportive team.
Person requirementsEducation / qualifications / training required:
Essential:
• General standard of education.
• Willingness to undertake on the job training.
Previous work experience required:
Desirable: Previous cleaning experience.
Knowledge and experience:

About the TeamThe MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is one of the birthplaces of modern molecular biology and has played an important role in the development of many new techniques, most notably X-ray crystallography of proteins, DNA sequencing and monoclonal antibodies.
The LMB has a clear goal of understanding biological processes at the molecular level, with the ultimate aim of using this knowledge to tackle specific problems in human health and disease. We aim to tackle difficult, long-term problems, which often require investment over many years.
