What You’ll Do  

Discover’s General Business Undergraduate Internship Program offers exciting internship opportunities for highly motivated individuals who are interested in exploring a host of disciplines within Discover. Participants will work on challenging initiatives in a sought-after work environment and culture. Individuals selected will be matched to projects across the enterprise, in the many different business areas/disciplines within Discover business units. They will be challenged to exercise and expand their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, working alongside proven leaders on projects and strategic initiatives aligned with Discover's high-priority goals.  

Participants can expect:    

  • An internship aimed at aligning personal talents with business initiatives   

  • Challenging and impactful work assignments that support Discover’s key priorities and objectives   

  • A team of resources to assist with training and career development, including dedicated program managers, experienced performance managers and knowledgeable mentors   

  • Real time and consistent feedback   

  • Interaction with the key stakeholders and senior leadership through both projects and program events   

  • To enhance their abilities to lead projects, make decisions, problem solve and think creatively   

  • Group activities, including networking events and volunteer activities

  • Opportunities for paid housing or housing stipend depending on eligibility

  • Acquisition – strategy and operations for all product lines (card, payments, deposits, loans)     

  • Business Analytics     

  • Business Development     

  • Corporate & Business Risk and Compliance     

  • Collections Strategy, Customer Experience and Operations    

  • Consumer Insights & Market Research     

  • Customer Engagement – Strategy & Operations     

  • Marketing – Strategy, Digital Communications & Customer Experience    

  • Operational Effectiveness & Process Improvement    

  • Payments - Technology, Products & Strategy    

  • Product Owner, Product Management & Product Strategy  

How You’ll Do It  

 Actively contributes to developing solutions to business problems using a wide set of key factors which involve critical thinking and problem-solving skills.   

  • Effectively manage key projects and priorities to meet key goals and objectives and ensure successful completion and delivery.  

  • Identify different sources of data and utilize software (i.e. Excel, SQL, SAS, Tableau, etc.) to both analyze and manipulate data to achieve insights and conclusions which can be shared to help drive business decisions.  

  • Engage with cross functional teams and uses a variety of techniques to understand key stakeholders concerns, while also being able to address them and gain buy in. This might include: coordinating and facilitating meetings, capturing and clearly articulating notes, key actions and potential risks/ issues.   

  • Work with a variety of key stakeholders including: business leaders, front line customer service agents and colleagues.  

  • Create communications verbally and in writing on project results and key initiatives. Communicate insights and conclusions using a variety of graphs, charts, PowerPoint presentations and/or other methods to tell a story to manager, key stakeholders, and business leaders.  

  • Establish an understanding of the business and brings fresh ideas to improve processes, generate efficiencies utilizing a strong customer service focus and mindset throughout.  

Qualifications You’ll Need  

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Current enrollment in an accredited 4-year College or University  

  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship  

Bonus Points if You Have:   

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Social Sciences; Engineering; Business Administration and Management; Accounting; Finance; Information Technology; Analytics  

  • A graduation date between December 2025 - August 2026

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate ideas into clear priorities    

  • High energy and intellectual curiosity    

  • Strong analytical skills and a consultative approach to addressing customer needs    

  • Strong business acumen, knowledge of financial industry, risk management, and business metrics     

  • Experience in SQL, SAS     

  • Proficiency in visual data management, i.e., Excel, Tableau    

  • Experience with Digital Design and Customer User Experience    

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems creatively    

  • Ability to apply previous experience and knowledge to new situations and problems    

Ability to operate as a team player
