The Role

About Atomwise:

Atomwise is a TechBio company leveraging AI/ML to revolutionize small molecule drug discovery. The Atomwise team invented the use of deep learning for structure-based drug design; a core technology of Atomwise’s best-in-class AI discovery and optimization engine, which is differentiated by its ability to find and optimize novel chemical matter. The company’s belief is that structurally novel chemical matter increases the likelihood of developing first-in-class and best-in-class medicines that have the potential to transform patient care.

Atomwise has extensively tested its discovery and optimization engine, delivering hit ID success in over 230 academic and collaboration projects-to-date that cover a wide breadth of protein classes and numerous “hard-to-drug” targets. Atomwise is building a pipeline of small-molecule drug candidates with first-in-class and best-in-class potential in immunology.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned and dynamic Director/Senior Director of Project Management to lead cross-functional teams in advancing drug discovery programs from early research through IND submission and into early-stage development. This individual will work in close partnership with scientific and functional leaders to drive strategic planning, progress tracking, and clear communication across teams—ensuring alignment with key milestones, corporate objectives, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate brings experience in drug development, a proactive approach to problem-solving, manage effective CRO interactions, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional project teams through all phases of drug development, including discovery, IND-enabling studies, regulatory submissions, and early-stage clinical development.
  • Foster high-performing teams and build strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and CRO partners.
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans encompassing scope, timelines, deliverables, resources, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Translate strategic goals into executable project plans, ensuring alignment across functions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison across discovery, preclinical, clinical, regulatory, and CMC teams to ensure seamless coordination and program success.
  • Proactively identify and resolve project-related issues, facilitating timely decision-making and communication.
  • Leverage tools such as Microsoft Project and Excel to monitor progress, report key metrics, and support data-driven decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 10+ years of relevant pharmaceutical project management experience, or a Ph.D. with 6+ years of experience in drug development.
  • Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical development lifecycle, including regulatory milestones.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage integrated, cross-functional project plans.
  • Experience working with finance teams on budget development and tracking.
  • Comfortable operating in a virtual, start-up environment and willing to take on ad-hoc responsibilities as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to clearly convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is preferred.
