Job Summary & Responsibilities

This role leads RJW’s highest-priority strategic initiatives, the enterprise performance-management system, and the adoption of operational change across the Logistics network. Reporting to the VP Planning & Performance Management, this Director turns executive priorities into initiatives that are delivered, adopted, and measured, including large-scale changes to operating processes and the deployment of automation, robotics, and AI. The role leads a team of [2] direct reports and partners with executive leadership, Operations, Technology, and Finance.

Success is measured by realized financial and service benefits against approved business cases, on-time delivery of initiative milestones, sustained process adoption 90 days after go-live, and the share of the network operating on the performance-management system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Initiative Portfolio

  • Lead a portfolio of enterprise initiatives at a time, from problem framing and business case through implementation and benefit tracking.
  • Partner with executive leadership to select, prioritize, and sequence initiatives against company goals, reporting status, risks, and realized benefits to the executive team on a [monthly] basis.
  • Frame open-ended business problems into clear recommendations with defined scope, cost, benefit, and decision points.

Performance Management System

  • Own the enterprise performance-management system (KPI definitions, scorecards, review cadence, and the escalation-to-root-cause path) through a direct report.
  • Extend the system to all sites and standardize it into a repeatable program.

Change Adoption

  • Own change adoption through a direct report, including SOP currency, training design, cutover and parallel-run readiness, and post-go-live adoption measurement.
  • Ensure each initiative meets its adoption targets before it is closed, and correct course when it does not.

Automation, Technology & AI

  • Lead the evaluation and deployment of technology solutions, from opportunity assessment and business case through vendor selection, solution design, go-live, and post-implementation ROI review, in partnership with Technology, Operations and Finance.
  • Identify where AI and advanced analytics create measurable operational value, and lead pilots accordingly.

Executive Support & Team Leadership

  • Prepare strategic planning and board-level materials for the executive team.
  • Lead, coach, and develop direct reports, including goal setting, documentation, and mid-year and annual reviews.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Track record of initiatives that were built, deployed, and sustained, not just recommended.
  • Strong analytical and problem-structuring skills; able to take an undefined problem and drive it to a decision.
  • Financial fluency sufficient to build and defend business cases to executive and board audiences.
  • Executive presence with excellent written and verbal communication; credible on the warehouse floor and in the boardroom.
  • Ability to lead through influence across functions where outcomes depend on others.
  • Working knowledge of how automation, advanced analytics, and AI are applied in an operating environment, including where they introduce risk rather than value.
  • Familiarity with warehousing, logistics, transportation, or supply chain is required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; a concentration in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Analytics, Economics, or Finance is preferred. Advanced degree is a plus but not required.
  • 8–10+ years of experience leading strategic, transformational, or operational improvement initiatives, including 3+ years of people leadership. Relevant backgrounds include management consulting, corporate strategy, analytics, or operations transformation.
  • Experience leading an automation, robotics, WMS/WES, or comparable technology deployment from evaluation through go-live is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in warehousing, logistics, transportation, or a broader 3PL environment is preferred.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, A3 thinking, or other structured continuous improvement methods is a plus.

Work Environment

  • This role is hybrid and requires regular presence at RJW facilities and headquarters; the balance of remote and onsite time will flex with the demands of active initiatives.
  • The role requires meaningful time in warehouse, yard, dock, and other operational environments to observe processes firsthand, investigate issues, support implementations, and align with stakeholders.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment will range from quiet to moderately loud depending on location.
  • Some travel between company locations is expected.
